Sharing front speakers between HT system and listening system.
I have a pair of nice MG1.7s I use as front l/r channels in my HT. I unplug these and also use them where they sit plugged into some tube gear as my main listening system.
I suppose I'm looking for a 'switch-box' type of solution that would allow me to leave the speakers connected to BOTH power amps without plugging or unplugging anything.
Obviously looking to preserve sound quality to the best extent possible - hoping the switch doesn't change the sound at all. Others must have come across this - how did you solve for this? Just a simple passive speaker A/B box used 'backwards'?
If it matters. HT is Emotive MC1 w/Emotiva/Adcom/NAD power amps. Listening system is MAcBook Air/Denifrips IRIS DDC I2S to Pegasus DAC to Rega Pre and Shanling Tube power. Thanks all!
You need a two channel preamp or integrated with a home theatre bypass option, along with a home theatre AVR that can output the front channels independently. This will allow you separate the two systems with as little as two shared cables. @cleareye2 Exactly what I need. I don't even require the VM's or even the remote control for that matter. But yes, this looks like it would do the trick and is well reviewed from what I can see as not affecting sound quality. Thx. Other replies appreciate also with the preamp suggestion for HT bypass - although I'm seeking to avoid using my tube monoblocks for the HT. |
My system is both home theatre and two channel audio, and my tube preamp has HT bypass but requires the preamp to be on to make it work. Rather than burn through expensive tubes while using HT, I sought alternatives. bobwireaudio has an automatic switching box for inputs from two "sources," i.e., two channel audio and home theatre, which then runs a single set of IC's to your amplifier and then on to the speakers. Unfortunately my setup is a combination of RCA and XLR connections which don't match up to his existing boxes, or else I would have one. |
