Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull

I've been a serious Tull fan since 1970, owning almost all of their music and much of Ian Anderson's solo material.  I've had the privilege of attending 4 of their concerts including a small venue where everyone stood but only about 150 in attendance.

I'm intrigued by the style and subject of the music, not your typical love songs or ballads.  The musicality is also some of the best from what is considered a rock band or some would say, progressive rock band.  This is especially shown in some of the early "theme" albums like "Thick as a Brick" or "Passion Play".

I will have to say my favorites however are the solo albums by Ian Anderson.  The album "Divinities" being my all time favorite.  When I want to test the dynamics of a system, Divinities is one I typically use.  The quality of the recording to me is second to none.  Take a listen to "The Pay of Spain" as an example.

Curious to hear if anyone else shares my enthusiasm for this group/soloist.

Their performance on the "Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" dvd will always be one of my favorites.

tksteingraber: Early Tull was much preferred…

Aqualung, Benefit, Thick as a Brick, Stand Up, This Was.

Later Tull became to pop-ish for me.

I completely agree. But I've heard some recent material and enjoy it as well.

Casual Tull fan but enough to find Ian putting his music to a string quartet.  I love their versions of the music.  Checkout Jethro Tull the string quartets. Great album.

Huge fan of Tull and Ian Anderson.  I was fortunate enough to have two older brothers that turned me on to all of the good stuff. This Was, Stand Up, Benefit, Thick as a Brick…… no rock ‘n’ roll better! Good to hear about all the remasters and re-releases as some of the older recordings were just not that great. Probably saw them a dozen times, mostly at the Capital  Center in Landover, Maryland. But, have had the fortune of small venues as well. Martin Barre I have seen in the very small RAMSHEAD in Annapolis, Maryland. Also, quite the treat. Kind of lost track of their albums in the 80s, but still quite the prolific rocker. I had fun at one of my most recent concerts where the kid next to me, asked me what all the old stuff was, and I asked him what all the new stuff was!  Can’t say that about many artists.
