Marantz SA-10 vs Marantz SACD-10

I have a Marantz SA-10 CD player and I am really pleased I made that decision. However, I can not help but wonder If anyone here thinks that the Marantz SACD-10 player is actually $4,000 better than a SA-10. And why? Inquiring minds want to know.

Couldn't agree more, I have three source components and spend much time with each trying different power cords and interconnects till finding the best combination.

It is rather amazing how much better a component can sound with better matched wires. I admit that I have limited wires to try, and I'm sure there is a combo I don't own that could provide better sound. Never the less what I have has allowed me to fine tune each components sound to a much more enjoyable experience.

I was going to sit this one out, but decided to respectfully offer the following comments.  First and foremost, following the scientific method, which is a must for this engineer, it is axiomatic that only one, repeat one, variable is changed at a time.  Then the results before and after are compared.  By that standard the method described by @stereo5 in his post is valid.  Second, I own an SA10 and it is a wonderful player and like you, I would like to know how it compares with the new one.  So far we have not heard from anyone who has directly compared them.

@regafan were you able to compare the sound of your SACD 10 to a previous generation Marantz SA10?  It would be interesting to know what improvements might be heard.  I have compared my SA10 to Qobuz and generally the Marantz sounds better.  I also have a Luxman D10X, and it sounds better than my Marantz. I find the differences are not huge, but with careful listening they are there.

I had a SA-KI Ruby. They share the same transport. I am on my third Marantz. I have never had a problem with a Marantz SACD-CD player. The SACD-10 does sound good, indeed, very good, but it should.
