SEEKING A SACD TRANSPORT

Was originally seeking a new cd transport and then I realized that I have many SACD's and that I enjoy the improved sound they bring as compared to redbook cds. I do realize that not all SACD's automatically sound better than redbokd cd's. An example would be my Mercury Living Presence CDs. So far the only SACD transport I have seen is the Shanling Zenith Onix XST-20 which retails for $2400.00. My maximum budget new is $5000.00. I would prefer a transport over to a SACD player, as I would like  to use my current Weiss 204 Dac. Thank you for any suggestions.

@audphile1 is correct that you'll need a D.BOB to fully extract the data off an SACD. There are precious few transports that can do it without one. The McIntosh suggested above will only do it via their proprietary MCT connection to another McIntosh product. You'll also need an HDMI out on the transport to use the D.BOB, which is why universal transports/players are a good way to go.

I personally use an Oppo 203 (with a couple of mods, which are easy to do) as a transport only. There is a mod available to add an I2S output. I have the parts, just haven't got around to actually doing that, but it does give you the ability to extract the full data off SACD's via I2S (using the HDMI interface). Mod parts and instructions are available at Oppomod.com. I've done the LPM SE power supply upgrade and the aluminum drive stabilizer and again, they were easy and fun to do if you like that kind of stuff.

Get a universal player (like Oppo) that has hdmi out, a less than $100 hdmi converter (i2s, coax, and digital outs) and you are good to go.
