What is your favorite Class D amp?

Moving to a new home with a smaller dedicated listening room has caused me to rethink my entire system.  I have always been a fan of EL34 tube amps and presently have a Primaluna HP (4 tubes per channel), but the size and heat make this a bit more difficult in my new set up.  So I have been thinking about going with a smaller, less hot class D amp.  But being a tube guy, I have never seriously looked into or listen to these amps.

so what is your favorite class D amp?  New or used, in the 5k range, but could go up to 10k.  Preamp is a Conrad Johnson ET-7.  Speaker will be in the monitor/mini-monitor class (so I don’t need high power for a smallish room) but have not made my final decision on speakers as the amp/speaker synergy makes this kind of a joint decision.

I purposely asked for “favorite” to be a bit more open in your relies.

thanks, Bill

I’ve been running various class A amps for years, but I’ve always been interested in class D. A few weeks ago while searching the Agon classifieds, I came across an original pair of Red Dragon Audio m500’s at what I felt was a really good price. I realize that these are old technology. I’m still impressed. I can only imagine how good new technology sounds. Will I ditch class A? No. However,I can definitely see tasting newer class D in the future.

Well, I can't speak for all Class D amps out there, but if you're on a budget (sort of), I had the PS Audio M1200 monoblocks in my high-end system (Wilson Audio DAW's, MSB Reference DAC, etc..).  The excellent sound I was getting out of these little amps was amazing!  For the money, I would put those amps up against many overpriced amps on the market.

I would also guess that Molo Mola makes one hell of a Class D AMP if their DAC is any indication!

Did I mention it has to be my current one from Class D Audio?  I’ve had many and still do.  Given its cost and overall performance and sound, it’s  a no brainer for anyone interested in testing the waters to give it a try.  Not something I say very often with this stuff.

Most stated are only power amps. Does anyone make a Class D integrated amp with phono preamp and tone controls?
