Amps is a measure of electrical current flow. Volts measure electrical potential, which you can think of as electrical pressure. When you multiply current flow (Amps) by the pressure drop (Volts) you get power in Watts. Multiply Watts by time and you get Watt-hours which is the true measure of how much electricity is used.
