In classical i prefered vocal and chorals to anything else...
In jazz, i do not listen practically to no singer...
Very few exception as Louis Armstrong or Chet Baker or Mary Nakamato, and very few others ( Billie Holiday etc) those who sing with their heart... Any performance so perfect it could be as Sinatra for example i would admire him but i will not really listen to him ...![]()
I listen to few singers in French : Léo Ferré & Barbara...For the same reason : absolute truth over performance...
Then in my 5 jazz albums, there will be no singers...Except Armstrong...I discovered jazz with Armstrong young , but for me it was not jazz music so much as it was Armstrong voice and playing, perhaps the greatest jazz musician who ever lived because he make Jazz known on all the planet more so than anybody else...He is a myth...No more just a musician or a singer, a soul radiating like a sun...( Ray Charles has something from him but cannot compare to Armstrong in my book so great he is and he is )
Interesting... he’s given five choices and out of five, he picks three vocal recordings.
