Anyone else prefer listening to their system more than a concert?

While we enjoy classical concerts—while stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany, we attended perhaps 12-15 concerts in Berlin and Bavaria, including the best being Beethoven’s Pastorale symphony performed by the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Karl Böhm in 1976, now being very senior citizens, we enjoy the comfort of our own living room, where also we can choose the compositions and performers we prefer, via Tidal.  

I’ll take live, small venue music (usually Jazz or Prog Rock) over my rig any day.   The live music is the target for my rig.   I keep getting closer, but I’ll never get there and that is OK.   Live is live and recorded is recorded.

i have been a long time patron and supporter of sfjazz in san francisco, also served on their board of trustees for some time - the dedicated venue is extraordinary, with several performance spaces all sonically very good to excellent - given this i enjoy taking in live performances of local and world class talent there often 

there are also other nice live music venues in the sf bay area, from yoshi’s to the blue note napa (for pop soul and jazz that i enjoy mostly)

when it is a wonderful live performance the energy, crowd reaction and sheer beauty of live musical moments being created in front of your eyes and ears surpasses what even a great hifi can do

all this said, great live performances aren’t available every day, but for just a few days in a year if we are lucky, and the hifi rig gives us commensurate joy in the convenience of our homes
