I picked up a set of Kanto Tuk’s and am very surprised at the sound I’m getting. Ribbon tweeter solid bass, optional matching sub. Works very well and if I’m honest I like them better then the Focal powered monitors I had and returned, 3x the price.

I will try to steer away from powered speakers, simply because the electronics take up cabinet volume that could otherwise help produce better sound. With $500, you could easily get a capable all-in-one amp (like the Wiim Amp, $299), a pair of wonderful passive speakers (like the Sony SSCS5 M2 2025, $178 on sale) and a pair of good speaker cables (like Micca 14 Gauge 6.6 Feet Each for $26). My sons have a combo like that, and they love it. This combo could really render sweet sounding with airy top and nimble low ends. |
I could not disagree more @lanx0003 He was not asking for an ultra low end system/massive compromise. |
