And so it begins! Prepare to spend and continue to spend more than you are anticipating. This hobby is incredibly addicting. If I could do it all over again I would start with a really good preamplifier and ATC active speakers and call it a day. No guess work. Proper room treatment is a must. Good luck

Hi all i’m unsure on what speakers to get i have a marantz sr5011 my budget is 4,000 for floor standing speakers. I found a local deal on some golden ear technology t66 the red ones for$3800. But how do i pick without the ability to listen to other brands kef sonus faber etc!! Is golden ear even good what suggestions do you have on hearing lots of brands under one roof. My listening is 50 percent music 50 percent movies.

Without many speaker choices locally, you should start looking at audio influencers on YouTube who critique gear like the Audiophiliac (Steve Guttenberg), Jay’s iyagi, Ron at New Record Day, and others, as well as consult the archives of magazines like Stereophile and the Absolute Sound. First thing to do may be to Google the price of what you’re considering to fit your budget. Secondly, be sure you know where you want to place your speakers. Your type of music will also affect your purchase as the frequency respone, especially if you love loud, tight bass, may color your decision. Lastly, I’ve heard good things about the Golden Ear speakers you found locally and might add Vandersteen Model 2Ce Signature III which I believe is in your price range. |
