Listening to Music = Ahhhh 😴
Got it👍
Turns Out Our Listening Habits Might Be Doing More Than Pleasing Our Ears…
I just came across a Monash University led study that I thought this community would appreciate, especially those of us who’ve racked up hundreds (…or thousands 😅) of hours spinning records, streaming playlists, and noodling on instruments over the years.
Researchers looked at 10,800+ adults aged 70+ and found some pretty striking correlations:
The data came from the ASPREE and ALSOP studies, and while it can’t prove causation, the researchers point out that cognitive aging isn’t just genetics, lifestyle matters just as much. And it turns out music might be one of the most accessible, enjoyable “interventions” we have.
Professor Joanne Ryan summed it up nicely: as lifespans get longer, preventing or delaying dementia becomes critical and habits like listening to or playing music may support healthier brain aging.
So yeah…
All those hours we’ve spent chasing better sound, tweaking gear, and playing music might actually be doing our brains a favor.
Not a bad justification for the next upgrade either. 😉
Do you feel your listening sessions are mentally stimulating or “therapeutic”? Anyone here notice differences in focus, memory, or mood depending on how much you listen or play?
Happy listening and apparently, healthy listening too. 🎶🧠
“break in of new components, disrupted system synergy with upgrades, responding to “digital is 1s and 0s” and “cables don’t make a difference” posts” The study may have ignored the true cognitive load of being an audiophile… break-in mysteries, system synergy meltdowns, and the endless chorus of “digital is just 1s and 0s” and “cables don’t matter.” If the researchers factored that in, half of us would qualify for hazard pay and early retirement…LOL! IMHO, responding to the “digital is just 1s and 0s” and “cables don’t make a difference” posts is absolutely a fool’s errand. It’s like trying to explain color to someone who insists everything is grayscale. When I see those posts, I just cue up a good record, sit back, and let the music and my system do the talking. 🎶 |
Music is the gateway to the resonant frequencies that permeate all sources of energy in the universe. Think about it like this. Everything is a wavelength. Light, sound, brainwaves, gravity, electromagnetic fields etc etc etc. It's all wavelengths all the way up and down the micro and macrocosm of reality. In that context, music is a relationship between us and the universe and it's like a sixth sense that these wavelengths can spur our feelings and imagination to beyond this reality, beyond the veil. It's truly my religion and I believe that those who have a strong connection to it have a direct connection to Source, the universe, God or whatever you wish to call the ineffable force that lives in us all. Happy listening. Go listen to some John MacLaughin with Shakti, or Maneesh de Moor, or Tipper, or many others if you want to feel this direct energy. At least that's what works for me |
