Auralic Support

About two years ago I bought  an Auralic Aries G1.1 Wireless Streaming Transporter from Audio Advisor.  I understand that Auralic is no longer in business.  Their support site no longer exists.  What, if any, support can I get on this product?

Perhaps one of you can answer my question.  The G1.1 sounds great, but lately it has quit streaming on Tidal after playing six or eight songs.  Then it displays an error msg" Unable to play selected streaming track.  I have determined that if I go to the Tidal setting (in the Arualic Lightning app) that I can clear the cache and the streamer will play again for six or eight songs and then the same error message appears.

I do not believe this is a Tidal issue. I havs deleted and signed into Tidal a couple of times with the result.  As well, I have a Cambridge MXN10 streamer on my desktop that is plugged into the same ethernet switch as my G1.1 and it has no problems.  Cambridge uses the same smart device interface associated with Auralic.

I suspect that the G1.1 has a firmware issue because Auralic no longer updates.  Whatever the issue, it is a damned shame that an expensive piece of gear can be so quickly consigned to the scrap heap because the manufacturer no longer supports it.  I have written to Audio Advisor for advice but haven't received an answer yet.

Any suggestions?

Just a question. Are you using the wifi part of the unit? If so that was one of the worst parts of the Auralic. Get a wifi extender and plug it in close (not too close) to the unit and plug into ethernet port. This will bypass the wifi and may fix the problem if it is related to wifi. And when you get a new streamer you can use it for that. Internal wifi circuits if streamers have them are generally unreliable.

Unfortunately what probably happens is there is a change in streaming services that requires an internal change in the streamer... and without support, it cannot be made.

Get a mini travel router or wall outlet range extender. You can set them up as a bridge fairly easily if you do not have an ethernet hard wired outlet nearby.

The small ones can be powered off the USB outlet of the device.

As an alternate solution - take a deep breath...

Watch the movie "Office Space". Pay particular attention to the scene where they smash the photocopier with a baseball bat.

You know what you need to do. Good luck.

Thanks again for the suggestions.  Audiphile 1 reminded me to double check my Cambridge MXN10 log in and (even though I would have sworn otherwise), I was still logged in.  I signed out. AI still had the same problem. Then I  signed out of the Tidal account on Auralic and signed back on.  I have been streaming from a Tidal playlist for about an hour.  So far, so good.  I am now using my iPhone as the only smart device controller for both devices.

A couple of you recommended upgrading wifi/router interface.  FYI, I am now using wifi connection but for first two years used ethernet connection with no problems. When the problem emerged a week ago I was using ethernet connection. Anyhow, if the G1.1 quits again I will look into these options.

Finally, Calieng's baseball bat solution has some appeal and I'm sure would provide some emotional satisfaction in the short term.  However, I would then have to clean up the mess and perhaps deal with some personal injuries.  Whatever its operational faults the G1.1 is pretty darned stout and I can imagine a glancing blow that did more damage to me than to it.  Nevertheless, I'm keeping it on my list of "possibilities."  For now, I'm following Steakster's advice to not give up the ship and sail on until all is well and truly lost.

As I was writing the damned thing up and quit. I: think I'll sign out and play Tidal on my desktop and see if any issues develop.

Glad my solution is working.

for when it starts having problems again…
