Low Cost Turntable - Incredible Performance

I highly recommend the Pioneer PL-30-K Belt Drive Line Output Automatic Turntable. Amazon offers for $400 but new in box are $299 on eBay now. I owned higher-end TTs and I can say this TT sounds as good. It is not well known compared to other brands, Replace the low end AT3600 cartridge though. A bonus is it is fully automatic. IMO you cannot go wrong with this purchase.

Thanks for your thoughts. Some might not consider 'fully automatic' to be a bonus, though.

"The Pioneer is .1% wow and flutter that no one can hear."

  • 0.1% wow → audible in many real music situations

  • 0.1% flutter → borderline but still audible on revealing systems

  • Anything under 0.05% becomes difficult for most listeners to notice

For reference:

  • Great hi-fi turntables: 0.03–0.06%

  • Midrange consumer tables: 0.08–0.15%

  • Cheap or poorly set-up decks: 0.2%+

See, it's you speaking in absolutes like this without really knowing the facts that make it hard for others to take seriously what you post.

Carpathian, aren’t the data you quoted just as limp as Jim’s? Who made these determinations and by what method? The Fluance RT85 has received uniformly good reviews for its price class, Jim.

In a conversation with my neighbor - a woman piano teacher - she complained about the wow and flutter she heard from the typical cassette deck. Obviously she had years of experience with tonality. For the average listener .1% wow & flutter would be a non-issue.

Hey, Jim.

My data comes straight from psychoacoustic research from Audio Engineering Society publications, measuring the thresholds of human pitch perception. Where does his data come from? My guess is his own head.

So, I’d say not. I actually own the Fluance RT85N, with the Nagaoka  cartridge. For the price, its a dandy TT. For the price.

And yes, I asked Chat GPT, then I asked it from what source it derived that answer.

So, I’d say it’s legit information.

My point that @jimbennet posts things as absolutes when they’re either simply his opinion or not based in fact, sounds like a fair response.
