Basic surge protection with some noise filtering without strangling the amplifier?

For sure you are right for protection aspect.

If i was leaving in a location prone to sudden tempest any hours of any day i will do the same, nevermind a bit less satisfying sound, but i am lucky where i live is relatively calm and thunderstorms are previsible in some way.. Then i disconnected my amplifier ...

Any surge protector with series mode protection has excellent noise filtering built in, due to the nature of the protection.  Furman with LiFT adds linear noise filtering.

Regardless if what others say the "rule of thumb" is, I surge protect everything due to living in an area with continuous affronts to the electric grid.  Damage warranties are almost never enforceable and I don’t want to go through the hassle of repair or replacing anything. 

I live in the Pacific Northwest as well.and have had my amps plugged into the wall for 25 years with no ill effects. 

I would highly recommend to you one of the Audioquest conditioners/surge protectors that are within your price range (new/used), like the PowerQuest 707.  And if you could somehow find a way to move up to the Niagara 3000, that would definitely put you over the top for ultimate power and surge protection for the foreseeable future.  I believe that the PowerQuest 707 would fit your needs just perfectly, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either.  I have my very high powered integrated amp plugged into an Audioquest Niagara 3000 with incredible results.  I found that the Audioquest line of conditioners/surge protectors are excellent at  getting out of the way and not restricting the power and dynamics of high powered amplifiers.  Even the lower priced Audioquest conditioners do an excellent job!!!  Happy listening.            

@mahgister - There's no better surge protection than unplugging a device from the wall.  I also know that here, 90% of the time a power event happens I have no warning at all. 

@kennymacc thank you.  i was also looking at the AQ PowerQuest 707 because it seems to do just about the same thing as the Furman elite FPi. To quote AQ’s marketing material, the 707 has:

“Transient Power Correction (TPC):
Low-impedance circuit provides current-starved amplification components with a reservoir of 45 amps (peak, up to 25mS) for uncompressed current on demand, enabling lifelike dynamic contrasts and thrilling impact.“

 But I was able to get the Furman on sale for $650 (with Amazon’s easy return policy); the PQ 707 looks to be about 2.5-3 times that. If I am unhappy with the Furman, I may try the PQ 707.  Or maybe even a Niagara 3000, as I don’t need 12 (or 13, in the Furman’s case) outlets.  (And the Niagara is pretty to look at.)
