Stereo Times review on the remarkable Naiu Labs Ella MKIII amplifier

First, regarding that I posted under a different user name. Did one time when for some reason I could not get into the GON system to post under my user name of twenty years. John Hoffman, fellow Stereo Times reviewer, gave me permission to use his user name. It is the Coda 5.5 thread and I clearly stated that I was the author of the thread.

Secondly, I often do respond to specific questions regarding the performance of the gear I review, but not always. As I stated their are so many variables that when the question is which is a BETTER amplifier, I choose not to answer that inquire. A classical illustration would be which is the BEST preamplifier - AricAudio Motherload MKII - Backert reference - Linear Tube Audio Level III. I have reviewed them all. They are all reference level line-stages, but different in how they present music. What source are you using in your system, what speakers, what's your personal taste, etc. Yet, if I write a review on one of them after writing a review on the others I get many Emails asking which is the "BEST". Insecurity runs amok with many audiophiles. 

Historically, many GON members have given feedback on the forums that my posts/reviews have helped them in finding gear that they were looking for. I state my system and my personal taste in my reviews. If your listening priorities match mine, it often means that you would enjoy that piece of gear in your system.

But why use Audiogon to draw enthusiasts to your site? Do you think this is in good taste?

I have had this discussion on more then one occasion. I consider Audiogon my home base, regarding the forums, for over 15 years. I actually got my first reviewing job because my lay GON reviews were well received and popular. I have gotten very positive feedback from many GON members that my posts and reviews have been quite helpful to them regarding different pieces of equipment’s performance leading to very successful additions to their systems.

So, do I think this is in good taste, YES. It has been helpful to many listeners through the years to find out about new gear and information which has been beneficial to them. 

I looked at the review, looks like a winner - SET warmth advantages, ample power, easier maintenance, cooler, much more efficient.   I’ve a highly neutral integrated with preamps out, just the ticket for excellent but different sounding presentation.

If a reviewer purchases the item, that’s an important data point.

Well as long as Audiogon allows this and more members dont complain then there isnt much that can be done. 

Please dont frame this as you helping other audiophiles. The true goal is to increase your readership or base as much as possible. Audiogon is allowing you to use their site to do precisely this when they will not allow dealers to promote the products they represent. 

From my perspective it reflects poorly on you, Stereo Times and Audiogon. But I dont read reviews so you havent lost a follower.
