Audio Technica VM-95E Cartridge - do you need better Quality

The VM-95E is a very good sounding cartridge and are as low as $60 new on eBay. It is a step up from the VM-95C. If you have an expensive system even the higher quality VM540ML is likely not enough cartridge. However, for the up to $1500 audio system you likely will not hear the difference from better cartridges. The VM-95E is that good and by far the best cartridge vs cost.

Many complain the 20dB stereo separation is not enough compared to VM540ML, but 7dB is not much difference to one's ears. The ML stylus at 23dB is about no difference,

@jimbennet

I did buy a VM540ML to replace my inherited Shure V15 Type III with unknown stylus history.

I have since bought a Jico stylus for the Shure, but it was more than the complete Audio Technica cartridge.

The AT VM540ML is a best buy recommendation from TAS  A really unexpected bonus for me is that many old and secondhand classical records sound like new, I guess because the microline stylus bridges the wear created by elliptical and shibata stylii.

Worth mentioning that the microline stylus has about twice the life expectancy of other shapes, too

@jasonbourne71  You were wondering how the A/T would fare against the Grado?  It would be like taking a blanket off the speakers.

I wonder how it compares to vm740ML? I usually prefer MC type cartridges - but I got an old Dual 1229Q and would like to experiment with MM.

I bought for $50 a ML stylus. No ID, but is red and same case as ML. The seller sold clothing and had this stylus.
