@addpowr the general conclusion was that the pixels are currently small enough that it's not able to be detected by the human eye. So it's more marketing than practicle benifit. Many say that improving contrast and color depth has a bigger impact than increasing resolution beyond 4K. However, If budget allows and you’re building a serious home theater, you could pick an 8K TV now, with the mindset that you’ll get more “future benefit” as 8K content becomes more common. |

I’m not a videophile, but if I was I suspect it’d be a lot like the various aspects of sound are for an audiophile and you want it all so picking a #1 is kinda tough. That said, and as with audio, I’d want balance so that all those aspects were at a similar level and one wasn’t clearly inferior or that’d bug the crap outta me. When I listen to my audio system I like feeling like I’m experiencing the performance without thinking about individual sound characteristics and pretty sure I’d feel the same way about high-end video and just wanna get lost in the movie without being distracted by noticing any one aspect of the picture. Just my take on it anyway. |
@soix You hit the nail on the head. The system should allow one to forget about the objective qualities and instead get "lost" or immersed in the sensory experience itself. That is what it's all about, right? |
Back in the day I remember my Pioneer plasma at 768P resolution being vastly preferable to any of the newer LCD displays doing 1080P. The rich, deep black levels, uniform backlighting, and superior motion handling far outweighed any issue with pixel density. I feel the same way now with 4K OLED being by far preferable to any 8K LED out there. Although LED has certainly come a long way since the old LCD days, particularly with the microLED technology, I think pretty much anyone would prefer the inky blacks of OLED over anything else.
