Stretch the budget an consider Klipsch Heritage Series speakers. Your vintage equipment would work fine. I picked up new Las Scalas for $9800, and am not looking back at my now closeted Martin Logan Ascents or Polk SDA SRS 1.2TL’s. Next time I open the closet will be to sell them. Best of luck!
Needing to replace thirty year old speakers.
I have a thirty year old pair of Canton ergo 80 speakers. I
never felt they were that good. My current system includes
a Chronus magnum dark integrated amplifier, a Cambridge
audio can v2 streamer and two Svs 2000 pro subs. The
Chronic dark replaced an Adcom 555-2 amplifier and an
Adcom 565 preamplifier. I always thought the Adcom
equipment sounded harsh in the upper midrange. The
Chronic solved that problem. It is better than the Adcom
equipment in every way. I like speakers that are slightly
warm sounding but still give detail. My budget is around
$5,000, maybe a little more. What speakers would sound
good with my setup? If a recommended speaker allowed
Me to delete the subs, my wife would be happy 😊

I second @mark200mph - tekton moab would be amazing for your space/bass requirements. Not sure how large your room is, but these can energize a fairly large space with their 4 12" woofers. I have heard a lot of good things about the Goldenear stuff as well but haven't heard them myself. If you're looking to get rid of subs, go tekton or goldenear. The rest of this stuff is not going to give you the sub frequencies you want, hands down. The mofi 888 has two 8" drivers for bass... if you really think that's going to give you sub bass, you may want to read about physics in regards to driver size/piston area. I have heard the 888, and although I enjoyed their warm and full sound, they just don't touch my double impacts or my friends Moabs. If you're able to go by tekton, or call Eric, I'm pretty sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. Return policy is generous as well. |
I have the golden ear top of the line and even thier old definitive technology sc 7000 prior to the selling the company and starting goldenear. I still prefer the moab tekton . ITs a great value for the money. Enjoy the hunt. I have several reference level speakers and the tektons sit next to them and sould right there. |
