To the OP, what have you not enjoyed for 30 years listening through the Cantons? I am very familiar with Cantons from back then. They receive accolades on their newer models today. The speaker / room interface is the most "significant" part of any system, ime. Nothing mentioned above would ever stray me away from my tweaked Lascalas, as they do for me things that only they can provide. Listening needs, wants and desires, are truly met. Many people have not reached this point, and honestly, unless you have a dedicated listening room (my wife would love these subs gone), you are starting at zero, again, ime. What characteristics in sq are you looking for? Anyone here who throws out a recommendation, is basing it on "what they like", or "what they read about". WHAT DO YOU LIKE? And if you do not know, try and listen to some things. I am a retired audio consultant, and my job was to extract information from my client, getting a sense of what they liked. There are many reasons I own what I do, as I know what characteristics of the recorded music I enjoy. Musical peaks must be realistic...the differences between loud and soft passages, "the musicians playing", is paramount for enjoyment. I am excited and delighted when I play my system. Not many are, based on what I read, and who I communicate with. I get emails from folks asking for advice, and I tell them what I am telling you. WHAT DO YOU WANT? Klipsch Lascala, for me. And RSL 12s subs. It is important to know what it is you want. Simple in theory. My best, MrD.
Needing to replace thirty year old speakers.
I have a thirty year old pair of Canton ergo 80 speakers. I
never felt they were that good. My current system includes
a Chronus magnum dark integrated amplifier, a Cambridge
audio can v2 streamer and two Svs 2000 pro subs. The
Chronic dark replaced an Adcom 555-2 amplifier and an
Adcom 565 preamplifier. I always thought the Adcom
equipment sounded harsh in the upper midrange. The
Chronic solved that problem. It is better than the Adcom
equipment in every way. I like speakers that are slightly
warm sounding but still give detail. My budget is around
$5,000, maybe a little more. What speakers would sound
good with my setup? If a recommended speaker allowed
Me to delete the subs, my wife would be happy 😊
