Needing to replace thirty year old speakers.

I have a thirty year old pair of Canton ergo 80 speakers. I

never felt they were that good. My current system includes

a Chronus magnum dark integrated amplifier, a Cambridge

audio can v2 streamer and two Svs 2000 pro subs. The

Chronic dark replaced an Adcom 555-2 amplifier and an

Adcom 565 preamplifier. I always thought the Adcom

equipment sounded harsh in the upper midrange. The

Chronic solved that problem. It is better than the Adcom

equipment in every way. I like speakers that are slightly

warm sounding but still give detail. My budget is around

$5,000, maybe a little more. What speakers would sound

good with my setup? If a recommended speaker allowed

Me to delete the subs, my wife would be happy 😊

ATC is on another level. Not that MoFi is not good but to me ATC enjoys the benefits of a long line of speakers, R&D, testing, economies of scale, etc. MoFi is a concept and it shows.

No fairy dust today, in today’s market 5 new will give you less than you’ve now IMO. Used speakers is the way to go with plenty out there. Analogy is similar to a car. You drive it off the lot, keep it for a short period of time your warranty is done. You got 30 years out of the system that you have now, where are you gonna be in 30 years ?

Thanks for all the good suggestions. In response to 1971... I know inflation plays a part. My dad left me a 2006 Cadillac when he passed. It cost $50,000 new. You can bullets of vehicles now for  $50,000 that are better than that Cadillac. Have speakers also improved in 30 years?
