Poor FM Reception

( am not too far away from FM stations but reception is poor. Two tuners with FET front end, it is not the tuner. I think house covered with solar panels blocks the signal. A Terk AF-1 amplified is very poor antenna. Radio Shack tunable antenna coming soon to test. Also ordered the 300 ohm twin lead 6 foot antenna and an amplifier to try. May be forced to install outdoor antenna.

Received FM Twin Lead antenna. Went from 2 FM stations using the Terk antenna to 8 FM stations. Some have minor but annoying background noise. Should receive 15dB amp tomorrow and hopefully resolves the noise.

Received Tru-SpedcTMA-15 and Radio Shack 15-1122 RF preamps. Found out both amps are same build. Neither made much difference in reception. The True-Spec was slighter better. The amp did remove the slight noise on some stations but not all. I will keep the amp. Figure if the signal is weaker on the antenna the RF amp does not have much to amplify.

Personally I’ve never had good experience with FM amplifiers unless I already had some signal from a good antenna.

At somme point I accidentally bought an ENORMOUS Radio Shack TV/FM antenna.  I mant to buy something smaller, but it was FANTASTIC when pointed the right way.

I noticed the amp also increases stereo separation with the amp. My tuner must have circuit to reduce stereo separation with lower signal strength. The amp does not add noise either. I am glad I bought it.
