PS - I am not an expert but I think it's the INVERTER in a solar power set up that causes the RFI, not the panels themselves.
Poor FM Reception
( am not too far away from FM stations but reception is poor. Two tuners with FET front end, it is not the tuner. I think house covered with solar panels blocks the signal. A Terk AF-1 amplified is very poor antenna. Radio Shack tunable antenna coming soon to test. Also ordered the 300 ohm twin lead 6 foot antenna and an amplifier to try. May be forced to install outdoor antenna.

@erik_squires Thanks picking up my poor wording. Appreciated. A solar system generates RFI at the inverter, not the panel. Instead of system I typed panels in error. That’s why I stated to install the outdoor antenna as far away from the inverter as possible. A solar system wiring carries current. Any wire carrying current generates RF. Installing ferrites on the wiring, which absorb high frequency radiation including RFI) and dissipates it as heat, is a simple way to reduce RF substantially. Thanks again and apologies to all on my unclear wording. |
Received Tru-SpedcTMA-15 and Radio Shack 15-1122 RF preamps. Found out both amps are same build. Neither made much difference in reception. The True-Spec was slighter better. The amp did remove the slight noise on some stations but not all. I will keep the amp. Figure if the signal is weaker on the antenna the RF amp does not have much to amplify. |
