Second Round of Questions on Speaker Cables

Following up on a post of a couple months ago. Running Audience AU24SE cables but looking for something with more "body" if such a thing exists. But I do love the open, airy and even frequency balance of the Audience. A buddy runs Cardas cables and loves them but Audience not so much. So I was asking what else besides my Audience. Two answers were in the majority:

Stick with what you like, Audience, but go up in the range. Or, try Cardas.

So went for with AU24SX and really like them. Better than the SEs, maybe a bit more body.

Then tried the Cardas Clear Reflections. What I find is an emphasis with the mids and upper bass. Great for music with an emphasis on vocals maybe, but for my wide-ranging likes of rock, jazz, and occasional vocal-centric music, just not right with that lower-end emphasis.

FWIW, Bryston amp, Spatial Audio and Rogue pres, Sopras.

So still looking but not sure where to go next. I realize I'm being a little vague, but there's so many other options out there and it's impossible to try them all. Open to suggestions.

Thanks.

So many wonderful speaker cables out there to choose from.  But, the trick is finding the perfect cables for you and your own audio system.  I faced the same dilemma that you're now facing about 15 years ago.  I found the perfect speaker cables for me through one of my local high-end audio dealers, JPS Labs Superconductor 3, and I've been using them every since.  You just have to keep on searching and auditioning until you find the perfect cables for you.  That's all you can do.  Happy listening.

Yes, make sure whatever you buy can easily be returned for low or no fees. That means either an internet direct brand with an in home trial period or else a local dealer who will work with you on that.

Since you considering Cardas I suggest giving Brian in their tech support a call.  I have found him to be extremely knowledgeable to match your system and what you are trying to achieve with the Cardas line.  He will not just try and upsell you to the highest price cables.  He also has a lot of experience with competitors as well.  Everyone here will recommend what they have but the secret is to match with your specific setup.  With so many choices, as you're doing here, the more opinions/experience you can get to narrow the field the better.

To @jaybe - I run Clear and Clear Reflections both, and a 35yr Cardas user.

If you believe Reflections lack emphasis on the lower end, [if I may suggest], there is something else going on upstream in the system, or the room itself.

If there is a common complaint, it might be that Reflections offers too much body and lower end, and the common fix is to move to Clear for a more neutral result. Brian will likely ask other questions about your system if you contact him.

I’d be looking at other possibilities first before trying other/expensive speaker cables, imo.  Best of Luck narrowing it down some more.

What model are your Sopra’s?  Bookshelf or floorstanders?  Without seeing a virtual system of your components and room, offering feedback is a guessing game.  Speaker cables might not be the solution for more ’body’.
