An Audiophile Nightmare

I woke up this morning and knew I had to share with my fellow AGoners a bit of humor only we would truly understand. Last night asleep, I was suddenly awakened by what was perhaps the single worst nightmare I've ever experienced--one of my speakers had been moved without my permission. That's right, the left speaker was off by at least 2 inches after having spent God knows how many days of precise measuring, re-measuring, and listening. Waking up this morning, I still sensed an unusual disturbance in the force until I walked into my den and suddenly realized that, yes, it was all just a horrible nightmare and that my precious center image was still intact. The relief was incredible, and my morning coffee and Wordle were like heaven!

In the same spirit, I love my sister-in-law.  But every time my wife and I have her and my brother-in-law into our beloved music room, she won't stop talking!

Underneath that humor, there is the real unease -- the psychological energy -- of SPOUSAL DISTURBANCE. With me, it's the amplifiers on dolly platforms. She can't leave them alone. Every cleaning day, she tweaks them toward the wall ever so slightly. As if I wouldn't notice. "I just vacuumed like I always do", she says, and trots off. And then I have to either swallow the offense, or counter, usually by quietly moving the vacuum cleaner to a remote corner of the basement. Then again, if she didn't "just clean" like she always does, the collecting rubbish would eventually bury the woofers, and disturb phase and RT60 in the lower registers. So there I am; caught between amplifier convective cooling and phase-correct bass. Nowhere to run.

Absolutely LOVED this post😂!! I’m so anally OCD about my gear that when I had an electrician over to run a dedicated 20Amp circuit for my rig, I moved my right front speaker so he could access the outlet. I could not have been more adamant and specific to him when I said “Don’t worry about the speaker I’ll take care of it after”. I felt like really saying (and I probly should have) “please don’t touch the speaker I don’t want anyone touching it besides me”😂…well lo and behold when he was done he comes and says all set and I put the speaker back for you”. It took all I had to control myself as I was HORRIFIED😂! The first thing my wife said was “You’re not getting new speakers so I’ll help you get it back in position and we’ll wipe the whole thing down”
