Digital transmission artifacts do affect the analog domain. Noise riding on grounds and cables affects resolution/transparency, incorrect timing or jitter affects the presentation, more accurate waveform contributes to a more analog like sound quality.
Do upgraded LAN cables/purifiers/switch box make a difference. What is recommended, if so?
Streamer / DAC is Orchard Audio PecanPi+ connected to a TP-Link SG105 switch with a slightly better than basic Ethernet cable. This in turn is connected to the wall (with same quality Ethernet cable).
For completeness, the PecanPi+ is connected via XLR to Benchmark HPA4 -> Benchmark AHB2 (bridged-mono) driving Martin Logan ESL 9's.
Analog (Clearaudio Concept Turntable) was upgraded (Sumiko Blue Point 3 MC, Benz Micro Lukaschek PP1 phono with SBooster power supply). This improved sound TT sound quality.
Now I'm looking for tweaks to the digital chain to make a difference. FWIW the streaming sound quality is already great. Don't want to spend more than USD 750 on all tweaks.
Would appreciate comments / recommendations.

Honestly the only Ethernet cable that ever made a difference for me was the Blue Jeans & I replaced a 12' Cinnamon with a 6' BJC. I have also been ipressed with the other digi cables from BJC. For the money in my semi-modest little system. I will say tho the old Harbeth 3.0's in this setup really do respond to digi cable changes. And I was the last person to think optical or coaxial cable could matter here. Best JS |
@strawj thanks for the input and experience. Heard a lot about BJC - all good. Just had a quick look at the website.. For 4 cables (router>switch>streamer/AVR/STB) it will be less than a $100. This makes it a no-brainer (If there is another reply similar to this - apologies - Agon keep on asking me if I am human. Quite funny though - a robot asking me on a digital device whether I'm human [shrugging shoulders, as there is no emoji for it] |
