High current amp search

Hello, so as the title says, I'm looking for a 200+ wats amp (8ohm) that will double it's power down to 2 ohms but importantly also check all the audiophile boxes so strong, articulate, fast bass, smooth resolving mid-range and extended non fatiguing highs. It's proving to be rather difficult because hardly any manufacturers list  output into 2ohms. Budget is around 4000$ so I'm looking at mostly used. Besides something like the Krell FPB 300/400 CX which can be had for that much , what else can be recommended?

@lukaszwk  I have never seen independent measurements of amplifiers that can double the power when impedance is halved, the manufacturers always seem to underrate the 8ohm measurement to achieve it.

@invalid yes, I realize that but some come closer than the others. At least the ones that were designed to do so in the first place. Most are not.

Atmasph, it depends which subs you are using and its room position

@rauliruegas Of course! The advice I give on forums tends to be generalized so if its taken seriously it will not lead to problems. In a smaller room than yours 100Hz could be problematic especially if the slope isn’t particularly steep.

@invalid

Maybe you should have read my post about the Krell FPB 600.

You’re right though, the Krell’s power does not double at each halving of impedance. 970W @ 8 ohm should get 7760W @ 1 ohm, yet in reality it only managed 6000W.

Here are the independent measurements:

Any amp whose manufacturer specs don’t include a 2 ohm rating (not just a "stable into 2 ohm" note) should be considered suspect as far as being a high-current amp.

That doesn’t mean such an amp cannot do a lovely job driving easy-to-drive speakers. It’s a question of choice.

This...

Measure it and the 8ohm output will be higher (messing up that perfect audiophile doubling).....But, they have to cater to the audiophile tribe who believe it is a high current amp only if the power perfectly doubles from 8 to 4 to 2 to 1 to  to (facepalm)...... underrate for sale, it is......

2 ohm dip, drop speaker in the trash can....

1 ohm dip, drop speaker in trash can and take a flamethrower to it...especially in 2025....but, apparently the designer in his garage was some immaculate genius of sound with his 1 ohm dip goofbox. He claims glory when it is the electronics that carried his goofbox anywhere.
