High current amp search

Hello, so as the title says, I'm looking for a 200+ wats amp (8ohm) that will double it's power down to 2 ohms but importantly also check all the audiophile boxes so strong, articulate, fast bass, smooth resolving mid-range and extended non fatiguing highs. It's proving to be rather difficult because hardly any manufacturers list  output into 2ohms. Budget is around 4000$ so I'm looking at mostly used. Besides something like the Krell FPB 300/400 CX which can be had for that much , what else can be recommended?

Btw a lot of suggestion here are for amps that are stable into 2 ohms. That is not the same as doubling power as impedance is halved.

with all due respect I have to disagree as to high passing the speakers at 100hz.

@lukaszwk While Raul’s suggestion is a good one you are also correct about 100Hz. If the subs reproduce frequencies above about 80Hz they can attract attention to themselves and so make a blend tricky.

So the best use of them is having them crossed over at a lower frequency such as 60 Hz and use a steep slope. That will allow you to place them where they are most effective. Multiple subs (up to 4) will do this even better, as I mentioned in my post on the prior page about my speakers.

Raul is dead on about the use of subs in his posts just above. Breaking up standing waves goes a long ways to getting things right in the room- that’s 90-95% of must room problems.

@lukaszwk

I have used two Classé Audio DR-9 amps for over 35 yrs. and can recommend them or other Classé Audio amps.  Not sure if the later Classé amps are as good--different designer.  Speaking of designers, the Aragon 4004 was designed by Krell's Dan D'Agostino, and was an impressive amp at its price and also one that doubles power down to 2 ohms.  I auditioned it and liked it.  These are older amps, so it might be wise to ensure that the capacitors have been replaced if you buy such older amps.  I haven't had to replace the caps in mine, but I am noticing a slight hum through the speakers that might indicate that caps are starting to go.

Dear @lukaszwk  : " I DON’T have problems integrating my sub and my speakers. i said clearly they integrate beautifully. This whole thread is about suggestions for high current application. Btw I will run my speakers full range and supplement the deep bass with a subwoofer because that works the best.  "

I can’t be in disagreement with you because that " integrating..... suplement deep bass... " is what you like and that’s why you insist with that HC amp.

In reality what you are suplementing through that subs running with the main speakers in full range fashion are only higher DISTORTIONS not only IMD but THD.

I don’t care about because I’m not who have to live with but you are. Fine with me.

Btw, I don't know which subs are " suplementing " deep bass in your system and the only additional comment I can do is that your subs are far far away of that 0.5% THD in the Velodyne ones.  The Magico stand alone subs has that kind of extreme low THD and each unit set you back 80K: go figure !

Atmasph, it depends which subs you are using and its room position, I’m crossing the HP filter ( directly in my Levinson monoblocks at its input card. ) around 80hz but I could run at 100hz and at least in my system you can’t detect those subs sound reproduction position.

@drmuso  I used for years the Classé DR 3-VHC that in those times was the only amp along big Krell to honor the Apogee Scintilla that goes down 1.2 ohm and with very dificult impedance curve and medium to low sensitivity. Even today great amps those Classé.

@lukaszwk  I have never seen independent measurements of amplifiers that can double the power when impedance is halved, the manufacturers always seem to underrate the 8ohm measurement to achieve it.
