It sounds like your tweeters or mids are blown or disconnected? Try listening close up and cover with your hand, if you don't notice a differrence. Also, lightly touch each of the big drivers (not the tweeter) and feel for movement.
**HELP** FOCAL ELECTRA 1028Be sound issue (muffled)
Hi Everyone,
I just recently purchased Focal Electra 1028Be. I connected them to the Sansui BA-3000 amplifier, and the sound is very "dull". It is almost like something is restricting the sound to really opening up. It sounds very muffled. I also run it through the Sansui pre-amp CA-2000, but the results are pretty much the same. I used various speaker cables, and that didn't change much at all. I am very surprised and disappointed. Do I need to start looking into different amplifiers? Did anyone have had a similar experience with those speakers? Please HELP.

I find it incredibly useful to get a DATS unit and measure the impedance curve of the speaker. You can also if you are handy do the same with Room EQ Wizard and a home made jig. Doing a full impedance sweep is often incredibly useful, and reveals any shorts or open circuits in either the crossovers or drivers. Also, if it helps, I’ve had Focal drivers stop working because of too much stress on a coil. The PCB mounted coils would break almost invisibly at the PCB. |
