Small Footprint Streamer/DAC unit
Greetings,
I'm considering putting together a system comprised of three pieces: a Headphone Amp, Headphones, and a Streamer/DAC. Prerogative is quality pieces with very small footprints. I've seen many headphone amps with small footprints but not many combined Streamer/DAC's with small footprints.
Atoll's MS120 Streamer/DAC is a possibility with a footprint measuring 12"W 8"D 4"H. A smaller unit would even be better.
If anyone would care to suggest other Streamer/DAC units with small footprints, I would greatly appreciate it. Budget is $3K (perhaps a $4-$5K unit selling used for $3K).

Do you use Roon? If so you won't beat this combo for size, price or sound quality. Pi Zero 2w and Chord Mojo. Make the Pi Zero into a Roon endpoint using free Ropiee software and power it with a 5v lithium battery pack of the sort used to recharge cell phones. The Mojo has its internal battery so you have cleaner power than any conditioner can provide. This Pi unit has a built in wifi capability so no ethernet wire needed either. Hard to improve on unless you just insist on paying more. |
Great suggestions so far. If you are new to streaming - don’t discount the importance of the software and user interface. Perhaps not as important as sound quality, but probably more important to your enjoyment than physical attributes and user interface of the components other than the volume control, since that will be how you select what you listen to. kn |
