Sorry this is a Shipping "Rant"
Has everyone had horror stories with shipping of something... OK bash me if you want I really don’t care but It’s like nobody wants to spend any time boxing or even crating up their audio equipment. I’ve been slowly trying to build a good system but as I’m looking through the used listings nobody wants to ship anything. yes I get it, it’s gonna be pricey to ship a +/-50lb amp or a big box speaker... but don’t ya think it someone is willing to spend a few thousand on a piece of audio equipment they would be willing to spend the money to have it properly shipped..? if the factory had a way to box it and send it out to the world I only think it’s fair for you or me as a seller to take the time to find a way to get it boxed and work out the details with the buyer. I have found that more then half of the listing I come across they all say "NO SHIPPING" all that tells me is you really don’t wanna sell it and you are hoping someone wants your stuff enough to beg you to let them come to your house or where ever to try and get it home on their own.
It is ironic, isn't it? Now that the Internet has given us access to used gear all over the country, we find that either the seller doesn't want to ship it, or we can't afford the cost of shipping. Five weeks ago I spent $1100.00 to have a set of speakers sent from Georgia to Arizona via freight. If they hadn't been such a good deal I wouldn't have been able to afford it. The cost of shipping has gone off the rails in the last couple of years. |
I have done some looking and a lot of the sellers on Audiogon are usually willing to work with you on shipping, So I guess My rant was to broad inadvertently accusing Audiogon users.but as @roxy54 stated shipping costs have gotten stupid crazy. If I find something I am interested in I always consider the distance as I am a remote rural area of ND I don't have the convenience of going to a specially store or the like. the best there is around here is a Best buy so the best I would be able to get is the general Klipsch brand and no they aren't bad just not what I am looking for. I am close enough to Minneapolis so I guess if I wanted I could just go to the factory and get a set of Magnapans. I don't know I guess I am rambling. I guess overall the walk away on this is "Good ain't cheap & Cheap ain't good." and if you want them shipped to you add 50% to the price in lost cases. OK I've rambled long enough for now. You would think with all the cameras there are in the shipping game ,so shouldn't have problems like we did in the past .Mishandling of the shipment. I work for the old PO loading trucks and tractor trailers. IVE seen packages thrown,kicked,dropped you name it I've seen it..I was also a clerk for the PO at JFK.I was a shipping clerk for a whole sale electronics firm.Then I worked for UPS as a tracking clerk and a claims adjuster.This was before all the cameras they all use now...But packing the equipment is so freaking important. I Have bought and picked up audio equipment and it's alit better than shipping it...but stuff happens. I have had equipment arrived broken and then the fun begins. When you make a claim.Good Luck. |
