it has always been the room/speaker marriage that matters the most. everything else is embellishments. Thankfully I approached my system this way and I have not had any itch to get a new setup... 

Supply and demand!!!  That's the only thing that matters here my friends.  No matter what you or I may think (those of us who can't even come close to being able to afford it), a 300K DAC is not intended for the average mortal man, as it resides in another galaxy where 99.9 % of us are unable to travel.  So they make a 300K DAC.  So what does that have to do with me?   This applies to houses, cars, jewelry, etc.  Happy listening.      

Having owned a audio store , Synergy is far more important then the cost .

$300k for a dac  a total rip off ,and even half off foolish to spend that you can get over 95% that for a 1/3 rd that. Price
