Have the itch yet again. $5-6k budget for floorstanders.

Well I've owned around 20 floorstanders over the last 30 years. Ridiculous I know but for me that's the hobby: trying new gear every 1-2 years. Anyhoots currently have Zu DW6 Superfly in my main rig, Wharfedale Evo 4.4 in the small TV room. Have both tube & SS amps I rotate. Yesterday I sold my SVS Ultra Tower (the prior version) ergo gots me thinking, so fun to go shopping, no? I listen to mostly jazz, on vinyl & via Qobuz. Some beats also (downtempo/chill). I used to rock out  but nevermore. Prefer to stay under 100lbs; not getting any younger. I do have a SVS sub the SB 2000 pro btw.

Here's my short list:

  • SVS Ultra Titan
  • MOFI 888
  • Dali Opticon 8
  • Cornwall IV (rich buddy downsizing)
  • Goldenear T66 (owned the orig Triton One way back 2013, dug them, had to downsize for a move)
  • Dyn C2 (wildcard, never heard em, wish I could audition)

Anyhoots, who wants to chime in?

Well, I always hate to participate in these what should I but things, but I will throw in my 2 cents.

Earlier this year on the same day, from the same local dealer I tried the following.. These are all $4500 to 5000 new.

JM Reynaud , dont remember model name. Very nice, but to polite for me.

MoFi 888. Again very nice. Big and heavy at about 100 pounds, to much for me anymore. In my smaller room, with there size , weight, and bass, I thought they would be a little to much.

Finally the Quad Revela 2 floorstanders. Beautufully finished, only about 65 pounds, physically a bit smaller than the 888. Much more powerful sound from them then the JM Reynaud. Nice bass, for my use. The owner who is a professional musician, and he sells a lot of other in the music making business them audio too. In this case a standing bass player friend of his, and after looking at the same 3, he went for the Quad Revela 2.

YMMV.......................................

Hello...how do you like the DW6's?...I have a pair that I bought for my still non-existent  man cave. I haven't yet hooked them up permanently. Based on your post, we have similar taste in music. Have you considered Devore? I have been often tempted by the brand.

OP wants under 100 lbs.  Below are 55 lbs. each.

Bit over your price range new, but used a real contender.  Good hunting.

Mofi 888 are a very good choice.

I would add the Kef R7 Meta to the list.  They measure really well and sound excellent.

I know I'll be vilified, but try, just try stacked Bose 901s. At least two high and even better if three on three.
