thoughts on adding phonostage

**originally posted in amp/preamp, suggested i post here***

Thinking of adding a phonostage/upgrade cartridge on current set up;
EAT b sharp turntable
rogue audio cronus magnum iii
goldenear T66 floor speakers
KimberKable ascent 8tc speaker wire and PBJ interconnect.

currently I have a ortofon bronze 2M cartridge.   will upgrade to EAT jo no.5 , Hana ML or ortofon MC quintent bronze depending on best price etc. excited to actually hear the difference as i think the set up sounds pretty good right now.

question is, thoughts on phonostage? the cronus magnum iii has a built in MM/MC phonostage, woudl it be overkill? and do i pair the phono to the rogue audio, or to the EAT turntable, or can I go with another brand?

There’s no simple yes-or-no answer

+1 You can get a noticeable improvement with better parts and design….but at price.

@pmzn - what’s your budget?

I ended up picking up a luxman e-250 phono. I bought nordost red dawn 3 interconnects. For now still have MM.  looking to break in new components. Right out of the gates the sound is cleaner. The system before the addition was at around 50 hours so it has a little more seasoning to go.  I’m looking to purchase quality phono cable to connect between eat turntable and luxman phono amp.  And I’m leaning towards a lo output Hana MC cartridge in the near future.

@pmzn

Congrats on e-250. Just checked Luxman line up, it appears they are only offering solid state phono’s. Hana MC would be a great addition, I used to own that cart and end up moving to Hana Umami Red. Check out Zavfino phono cable,

If you choose to buy this cable, please allow full break-in, around 250 hours.
