Do you lean towards tube or solid state? What speakers are you using? What genre of music? What’s the amp? Knowing none of these things I’ll throw out a vintage McIntosh Mx110z. That’s a great vintage sound with low mid - tube bloom, can be very forgiving for vinyl yet magical at the same time - cult favorite. Of course this says more about me than you - we need a little more info… Good Luck! |
McIntosh mx110z Tube Tuner Preamp all the frills, and a tube tuner as well, why not if it sounds awesome. I use a SUT for my LOMC so I can keep using the mx110z’s MM Phono this is what convinced me to try one. I used mine for 2 years then had Audio Classics refurb mine, the best thing they did was change all the jack panels to new gold plated rca jacks. https://positive-feedback.com/Issue77/vintage_mcintosh_experience.htm feature full, I’m not living without my McIntosh Mode Switch, a great tool when adjusting my speaker’s L-Pads, and Mono Mode listening to Mono LPs. some already restored, pick one https://www.hifishark.com/search?q=mx110z .......................................... for remote volume, and remote balance, I use one of these Chase RLC-1 remote line controllers. You can use it optionally thru the tape monitor loop, doesn’t matter, no one here has ever been able to detect if it is in or out, simply benefit from it’s features. I use one in each of my 3 systems: Main; Office; Shop/Garage
