Let's talk music, no genre boundaries

This is an offshoot of the jazz thread. I and others found that we could not talk about jazz without discussing other musical genres, as well as the philosophy of music. So, this is a thread in which people can suggest good music of all genres, and spout off your feelings about music itself.

Sorry about posting the wrong pianist in Bernstein. The Record I have at home has Zimmerman playing and I thought that was what I was posting. It has a very interesting introduction with Bernstein talking about the symphony and what his goal was in writing it.

If you like Brahms' 2nd Piano concerto, let me recommend Geza Anda with Frenec Fricsay conducting. I own the recording of Rubenstein and it never really moved me. But Geza Anda and Fricsay brought it to life for me.

I will listen to Geza Anda ... It is my favorite concerto...

But if you hear Zimmerman you will understand why it is extraordinary and my best one..

I'll stream Julius Katchen playing Brahms Op. 119 tomorrow. I am almost positive that I grew up with a Julius Katchen record around, probably owned by my grandmother who went to Bayreuth every year.

You were lucky to live in an "educated" environment...
