@unsound, the mod isn’t so much to Roon as it is to the Oppo BD-103D SACD/Bluray player to the DS Jr.  Oppomod.com makes a board that highjacks the internal oppo DSD stream and sends out the DSD stream directly to the DS Jr. (or whatever DAC you have that has an i2s input).  Forgive me is you are familiar with i2s, but for those that might not be familiar - this is something that PS Audio came up with a few years back in their gear so that they didn’t have to use the PCM stream from their transports to thier DAC’s.  It transports the direct digital stream to the DAC via an HDMI cable (This is my understanding but feel free to correct me).  If anyone wants more instruction doing this email me @[email protected] - more than happy to help - I have no affiliation with oppomod - simply bought the board from them.  Hope this was helpful.

You don't need this mod to rip to DSD (and ultimately to Roon).  Here's the how-to (Oddly the Oppo's are listed as one of the players to use - but you can do this with some $50 ebay sony models too):

@wisinskt , I’m led to believe that while that might be possible with the Oppo 100 series Oppo’s, it’s not possible with the later (last) Oppo 200 series .

@unsound, if you are talking about ripping, you may be right as it’s not specifically mentioned in that post and from what I read, oppo "fixed the glitch" with the 203 and later.  The security "flaw" existed in the MediaTek chipset.  Having said that, if you are set on ripping DSD you can find one of the Sony’s on ebay for $50.

If you are talking about getting the i2s board, the oppo 203 is one of the supported decks and worth doing if you have PS Audio/Denafrips/Other gear that supports it as the only alternative from the oppo deck is line out - not even SPDIF to DAC.

Also, this only works if you are listening through Thiel speakers (wink, wink)
