Thiel CS7 experiment

I thought I would share an experiment I did with my Thiel C7 speakers, which probably not too many people may have tried. I have owned a pair of Thiel CS7’s since 1996 and am still extremely happy with them. I was worried about them breaking down after all these years, and bought another pair as spares. The spares are in excellent condition, and as an experiment, I hooked them up to my Krell 350 MCx monoblocks as a second pair. So now I am listening to two CS7s per channel. Has anyone else tried two speakers per channel? I can only say that it sounds amazing. A wall of sound, great imaging, great bass. Call me crazy, but I am keeping it this way.

Hi just curious, are both speakers CS7 (paper drivers) or 7.2 (aluminum drivers)?

@preener2  I have the CS7 speakers, not CS7.2. The base drivers are aluminum. The mid-low some type of plastic foam, the mid-low also uses some type of foam, the tweeter is aluminum. I don’t think paper is used for any of the drivers.

Hi oeneroorda,

Yes, my use of "paper" was not a good choice. It was a long time ago that I upgraded to the 7.2, it was a difficult mod at times and did cost a pretty penny.

For a laugh, I ended up putting the mid driver I took out of the 7.0's, and put them in my pinball machines, High Speed and Xenon. They sound great!

Happy Listening!

Did you ever try this dipole arrangement?

My wife asked me why I was measuring our living room. When I told her about the idea of TWO pairs of speakers, pulled away out into the room she just stared daggers at me.

She barely tolerates my imposing pair of CS7's.

Hello, no, I never tried the dipole arrangement. It's not so easy to move the speakers around, and the backward-firing speaker would be a bit close to the wall. My speakers are in a dedicated music room and don't disturb my living room. True, most women would faint at the thought of having these big speakers in the living room. I am very happy with the performance of the double speaker setup. The Krell 350 MCx monoblocks drive them nicely.
