Weiss 501 DAC Question

When I owned a Weiss product, I found their tech support was excellent. Often, the reply came from Daniel Weiss himself.

Looks like mute is engaged.   Have you tried unplugging the unit?  My PS Audio DAC would need to be rebooted after storms or electrical surges.

Taken from Website and manual.  I know most manuals are tedious  But taking a few minutes to peruse yours may save you some trouble in the future!!!

On the faceplate of the DAC50x-4ch you can use the LCD which is a touch screen and the rotary knob to operate with the DAC50x-4ch. Tap on the LCD at the:

• Upper left: input selection. The UPnP selection selects the Ethernet interface as the input.

• Upper middle: output select. Only the selected output is active, i.e. XLR/RCA or JACK. The output which is not selected will be muted.
  The displayed red icon also shows the output’s selected Output Termination.

• Upper right: volume. If red then the output is muted. By tapping the output is toggled between muted and unmuted. The volume can be changed with the rotary knob.
  If the value shown is yellow then the absolute polarity of the output is inverted (see below). All param- eters can be different between XLR/RCA output and JACK output.

• Lower left: DSP settings. This opens a menu which allows to select one of the DSP algorithms to be changed. (Note, the rotary knob allows to scroll through the menus).
  The algorithms can be operated via the touch screen, but we recommend to use the web interface (sec- tion 2.3) for simpler operation of the DSP features. All parameters can be different between XLR/RCA output and JACK output. Thus select the appropriate output first (XLR/RCA or JACK) and then adjust the DSP parameters.

@mike_in_nc @chuck Thanks. Yes D Weiss is helping me and he’s most kind.  The Digital Cable AES/EBU from streamer uses the XLR input. Somehow RCA was selected and I was careless not to notice. It’s now back on XLR but still no sound. I hoked up anther source to AMP and AMP is working. 

My theory is something went wrong and unit jumped to RCA. 

Streamer is a Roon core and it has two other end points that are all good and working so something amiss in the 501???

Well it was busted and I sent it back to the Mothership in Switzerland. Yes @mike_in_nc Daniel Weiss was very helpful. Very. Support was excellent. Additionally post fix he asked might I be interested in upgrading to the 501MK2? All those on line reviews with superlatives about the 501MK2 are right. When my wife says, "wow it sounds better" that's really something. Did I neglect to mention the upgrade and say back to her, "yes the repair was very good"? Survey says.....

I got a Schitt MIMIR DAC for the time out and it worked but... and that's that.
