What to do with broken McIntosh Pre-Amp

I inherited Klipsch Cornerhorns, a McIntosh MC2125 Amp, and a broken McIntosh MX 114 Pre-Amp.  Please forgive me for saying this, but I don't want to spend $800 or so for a pre-amp.  Is there a reasonably priced alternative out there?

Audio, as a hobby, is expensive. What is the problem with the MX114 ? What are your sources ? What is your commitment to getting music out of the Klipsch / Mac combo ?
ditto for Audio Classics, IF you are on West coast, I strong recommend Elite Audio Technician, Randy Vikan..he is amazing, fixed issues the factory missed on both my MX-110 and MR-85

Thanks for the responses.  I plugged the MX114 in and one of the internal pieces started to smoke.  I'm not sure what you mean by "sources" but I work in Pittsburgh.  As far as commitment, I'm committed to using the working pieces, but I'm afraid it's going to cost too much to get the 114 fixed.  So, I would replace it with a less elite pre-amp if it wouldn't detract from the other components.  Does that make any sense?
