I also reached out to
the AudioDoctor, when that I found that he is an authorized dealer in the New York and New Jersey area for the Paradigm and the Legacy speakers.
In the market for a pair of speakers, I called David the previous evening. He spent about half an hour on the phone with me, trying to understand what it is that I am looking for and what electronics I would pair it with, before he invited me in. When I asked "how is tomorrow" he replied "Tomorrow is fine"
Dave spent the better part of four hours of last Saturday with me on trying out various speakers.
We first listened to a pair of Legacy Focus SE a speaker with a lot of presence and an incredible bang for the buck (a pair of Legacy Aeris was expected to arrive in the shop very soon).
In response to my questions and comments, David then suggested we moved to listen to a beautiful pair of Dali Helicon with incredible voicing and detail offering "gestures" I never had noticed before.
As the new Paradigm Persona had started all of this, we then proceeded to the 3F model, which besides its striking looks, is an unbelievably clean speaker. Nothing escapes it, extremely detailed, musical, with beautiful staging.
The 9H was set in a prominent place, and David graciously offered to "fire" it up, however, as it is beyond my budget, there was no point and opted to listen to a pair of KEF Blades 1 located in a different setup in the next area.
Throughout the audition process Dave was very attentive to my questions, obviously very knowledgeable about the construction particulars of each speaker and the implications of the design choices. He could comment and compare with other models and similar equipment, he conveyed the confidence of someone who has charted the landscape extensively for a very long time.
There is a huge selection of electronics to choose from -wall to wall, literally). Some gear I had never heard of - like a pair of very impressively looking Polymer speakers with diamod tweeter and diamond midrange!
Dave is a great host, takes a lot of pride in hos work and in his knowledge. He has a lot of love for what he does and tries to help you to get to a solution you will be happy with at a price point you will be comfortable at. I got to listen to 4 pairs of speakers, 2 of which I could find in no other place in the New York-New Jersey area.
