DIY Class D amps

Hi Everyone,

Turns out Parts Express has started selling new ICEpower modules. I am a big fan, but I thought I would put together a few resources if any of you want to DIY an amp or 2.

Parts Express is selling ICEpower modules and power supplies. Make sure you check whether your module comes wiht a power supply or not.

Ghent makes great cases, with all the wiring you need: https://www.ghentaudio.com/

Of course, check the specific ICEpower module works in the spefic case.

And of course, if you are dying to try the darling of Class D, Hypex you can order a complete 400W mono kit direct:

I have no financial interest, but I do think more audiophiles should DIY their own solutions now and then. Please enjoy, and if you find a source for Pascal or other fancy units let me know.

Best,

The Hypex 400w mono kit looks killer.
A pair are not going to break the bank for a couple hours work
Thank you Erik.

The Icepower 1200AS2 ICEedge molule has already beaten the NCore NC400 and NC500 (reviews posted online).  And this is with a stock 1200AS2 in a box with good wiring and jacks.  The NC400 amp set costs you $1300 Euros plus paypal fees and shipping and you have to assemble them.  My much better sounding stereo amp with a tweaked out 1200AS2 is $1000 US completely assembled.  The IcePower amps sold by Parts Express are not ICEedge.  The 1200AS1/2 are the newer much better sounding IceEdge modules.

I modded the NC400 modules years ago.  They are not in the league of the new Icepower IceEdge modules.  You can see a pic of one of my mods to a unit including better filter caps in the output and my binding post bypass system here (the information on my site about this is years old): http://tweakaudio.com/EVS-2/Hypex_NC400_mods_and_assembly.html

As I said in another thread.....if you have not heard the latest Class D and heard it tweaked to the max then you are listening to amps that have been superseded in sound quality (Let's all sing along....."Who wants yesterdays papers....who wants yesterdays Class D....nobody in the world")

But @ricevs - Mytek just told us that only Pascal amps can handle difficult loads. What should we believe??

Golly.
Believe your ears only.  Trust no one, including me.  This is why I give a 30 day in house money back guarantee.  You get no money back thang with Hypex modules or Parts express amps (you buy, they are yours).  Trust yourself.  Listen for yourself.
