Would self quarantine be a challenge for an Audiophile? Home detention even a punishment?

With all the talk about people having to self quarantine, I started to think about what that would mean for an audiophile, and Would it even be much of a challenge?
Normal human being - “I had to self quarantine for 14 days and I’m ready to strangle somebody.”
Audiophile version - “I cleaned so many damn records I had been meaning to.... adjusted my VTA and azimuth and my system sounds better then ever, and after listening to the entire Miles Davis and Coltrane’s recorded output, I realized I could have left the house 2 days ago.”

And would some white collar criminal on home detention even be considered being punished? I’d be so content stuck at home with great audio system, home theater projection, laser light and planetarium show, pinball machine, infrared sauna, massage chair, I may decide to commit some “victimless” financial crime just to play with the toys I don’t always have time for.

I am certainly happiest at home. If all I had to do was make an occasional trip to the super market and the butcher I would be very happy. It is a strange world out there. We are about to nominate a senile old guy for president.
Regan II, Electric Boogaloo.....
I think they got their website hacked. (John Hopkins corona virus live report web data page)

Quick now, before it changes back to where it should be...

I should take a screen shot before it goes away...

Gonna give someone a heart attack. Little bit of the old live ’war of the worlds’ for the gullible....

"I knowed it! I knowed it! Martha, where’d you put the extra shells?! They’s a gonna be commin for us now!"

(for those who are going to miss it, the total confirmed infected, was changed..to... 2,647,665 )
The kind of information needed.

Rough timeline for someone who is in their 80’s, when it comes to showing signs. 3-6 days.

Someone much younger and healthier, lets say a triathlete...7-14 days. Both estimates as a question, not an absolute.

Longest has been approx 27 days. For those who actually end up showing symptoms. Depends upon sensitivity, and now we know there are..apparently..two versions of this virus out there, already. One more virulent than the other, is the initial data coming in. (about there being two) (and the re-infection phenomena might be related)

The numbers are all over the place (re: potential for infection being obvious), actually, as it is seemingly immune condition dependent. In the condition of the moment, it seems. Or, the very critical aspects of how this works are still a bit of an unknown and these rough estimates are all we’ve got, for now. Don’t know.

One can see how difficult this one is to control, unless the lockdown is complete. When they say "it’s been out there circulating for weeks", they really mean it has been out there circulating for weeks. Moving slowly, but ... very stealthily.

Thus one might really be in lock-down listening to tunes for quite some time, in any infected area.
"Give me your most paranoid heart attack inducing weed", I would tell them. "I'm going to spam the audiogon forum tonight...I need something to keep me apace..."
"The Weed Is On"..sung..of course, to the tune of Glen Frey's "The Heat Is On"

It’s looking more and more like the promo poster for the film ’Coma’(1978), in our fevered imaginations, anyway.(thinking of the afore mentioned quad station ventilator)

Or possibly the cover of ’to your scattered bodies go’ (one of the original covers, from a decade or more before, not this listed one. finding original art covers like this - is rare)

There was a line up at the downtown Kingston weed stores, yesterday and today. It looks like exclusive dance clubs at 2am, with the barriers, line up, etc. But at 2pm, on a Thursday afternoon.

Latest numbers. In US 26,900 confirmed cases, 348 deaths. Mortality rate 1.29%. In Italy 53,578 confirmed cases, 4825 deaths. Mortality rate 9.0%. Spain, 25,000 cases and 1720 deaths, mortality rate 6.9%. Iran 21,638 cases, 1685 deaths, mortality rate 7.8%.

Community infection rates are considered to be substantially higher than the official tested infection rate. As in a minimum of 10x higher.

ie, one infected person goes to a wedding of 100 uninfected people, and commits to normal levels of gregariousness as a wedding may have as it’s interactions in/of people. It is expected that 30-70 people would be infected by that one infected person attending.

That the virus hangs in the air, viable, for up to 3 hours. Not specifically capable of being inhaled and infecting, but strong potentials in that direction. People in confined spaces like elevators, even when distanced within that box... is a problem. Thus shopping for food can become a problem. passing someone in a tighter style hallway in lets say the older parts of NYC apartment buildings. Subways. Buses. All a problem.

This virus is a very contagious thing, especially when people are not symptomatic --yet are infectious. Which is turning out, via widespread testing and observation ---to seemingly be more of a norm than an exception.

This is where the Chinese and overall Asian plan of ’all people outside and past their abode’s door, MUST wear a mask’..it is where this plan and action..begins to make terrific sense. In this case, a surgical mask, not a N95 mask. Or... the penalties are severe. I believe china (read about it) is making between 60 and 110 million surgical masks per day. I believe, from reading.. that this number or daily total - is increasing. China is using them all, apparently. Other countries will require their own production to ramp, if they want any themselves. China is ramping up production even more, potentially for export, so we shall see.

Eg, near the beginning of this, I saw 5000 surgical masks purchased from a Canadian Tire store (before the virus hit north america but the masks were made available)..I saw 100 boxes of 50 each, purchased by one Chinese national, and they were then sent back to china. This guy was out and about in Kingston, Ontario, headhunting for unreserved and unprotected mask depositories..department stores, hardware stores, pharmacies..everywhere... and raping them all, if allowed.... and shipping them back to china. People around here were not worried about masks yet, and some towns, cities, stores, etc..were cleaned out. Just like that.

An N95 protects you and exposes everyone else to you (filtered inhalation-unfiltered exhalation).

A surgical mask protects everyone else from you, and exposes you. (mostly filtered exhalation- partially unfiltered inhalation) A surgical mask is a leaky design, not really meant for what we are using it for, but it is the best lowest cost easy to make decently functional choice available.

With high levels of unrealized community transmission, then the surgical mask for all people in public spaces -- is the way to go, the way to slow it down.

The best bet? Go home. Stay home. Do not get restless and go out. Now is the time to avoid contact. Right now.
I came into the Canadian tire store just after the 100 boxes of masks were purchased. I made a comment about how the people finally seemed to be getting the hint.

the cashier told me the tale of what had just happened. she said who it was and he said what he was doing with them. She asked, the guy said why.

The display originally had almost 200 boxes of surgical masks. right by the cash/exit. as well as about 20x boxes at any given time, of 10x N95 masks. The n95 type with a flap valve. Honeywell brand, made in Tunisia. Model # RWS-54007. Just read that off my box that I purchased, feb 23rd/2020. I checked the receipts (I put them in the boxes) for the dates. the exhalation flap can be critical if one thinks they may have to clean it for reuse, as it prevents the moist exhalations from solidifying the crud in the mask material that is embedded from inhalation. The flap inclusive mask design will possibly last longer in an over stressing situation.

A few days later, I came in and the 100 boxes of surgical masks had been purchased just a few hours before. I bought a box of the surgicals then, as most had suddenly disappeared. Feb/29/2020. Condor brand, box of 50, model number 4KMY1A, manufactured in china, for Grainger International, IL, USA.

I got on the horn immediately and warned (more like swore may ass off at them) the management at the given Canadian tire store, the division street store in Kingston, to get the message out to the other stores to not allow anyone to buy all their stock like that.

See the covid-19 thread in the off topic area (the lounge) at canuck audio mart, for the same tale, told on those exact same mentioned days. (02/29/2020).

Why would I freak out like I did, in that thread, about an imaginary thing or created story, long before general panic, almost a full month ago? Think it thorough.

The one thing I don’t know, is if any other Canadian tire stores had stock, or if many had such large stocks of surgical masks. As many or most Canadian tire stores are franchise stores. Independently owned. Some guys have multiple stores, some only one. I don’t know if the stock they carry is dictated to them wholly by the parent company... or if they have leeway to sell some stuff they want to sell - and is not carried anywhere else.

If you check the thread as mentioned, at canuck audio mart, you’ll find out that if shipped to china, and managing to get to their desired destination, that the person might have made $50K-100kUS from the one 100 box haul alone. As no one was allowed out of their abode without a mask.. in pretty well all the metropolitan areas of china by that time. Other thread participants with relatives in china at the time, explained the situation back in china.

People could not leave their houses or apartments to get out and buy food, as no one had any masks. 100% compliance was 100% required.

Thus prices for surgical masks would have been whatever the market could support. Note the thread participant who was doing pretty well the same by getting any and all masks, expensive(N100) to cheap, for his family and friends back in china.
By this evening, the USA will, by the record, have more positive tested cases than any other country in the world.
They never found patient zero, interestingly enough.

What they found, was that that patient zero was scattered around the wet market. Seemingly in multiple places at the same time. All over the dang place.

My my, how did that happen?
