The revolution has begun!
the big problem with quoting the idea of objective vs subjective is that subjective existence, which is all we have.. has allowed for a thing called 'objectivity' to exist. Objectivity is a mental mind method/way/filter of thinking and exists sol...
Soundstage drastically worsened when I replaced a solid state AV amp with tubes.
negative feedback causes micro transients to be subtly altered and smeared. this can give false cues as to soundstage and detail information. like the exaggerated beauty of breast implants collagen lips and oversized butts. that ain't beauty, it's...
There has to be a winner somewhere
With all technologies putting in their best turn, and all of them with equal quality sources and all of them with equal quality playback gear, then..7-1/2 IPS reel to reel commercially released tape is the best commercial format that existed.   ...
Has anyone been able to define well or measure differences between vinyl and digital?
The place it counts is in the micro expression of transients and micro transients and the differences in level and timing between them. Vinyl does this surprisingly well, as does tube gear. And horn speakers are good solely in this small area of...
Snake oil of the year?
better grounding, or cleaner grounds can fix a lot of the impression of 'grunge' in some digital based audio systems. Not always, but it can happen. same for purely analog systems. the ground and it's qualities can be and is important. This can b...
how were copies of vinyl made in "third-party" countries
It just goes to show you that things had to be analyzed carefully. We don’t know how the UK worked their pressing plants. Did EMI/Harvest handle their own pressing plants the same way they handled Canadian or US pressing plants? Or where the pres...
Has anyone truly compared Vintage vs. Modern?
One can (depends on the circuit, and more) modernize the parts in a vintage amplifier and make it sound superior to just about anything else. Parts quality can be half the battle, if not more. But that would be called a ’ringer’, and it’s not a t...
how were copies of vinyl made in "third-party" countries
Generally, as you have found ..original copies from the smaller orignal country can sound quite amazing. Mostly due to the possibility of the shortness and simplicity of the tape-to-LP path. Regarding EMI/Harvest analog originals...those from Gre...
how were copies of vinyl made in "third-party" countries
Ah, the joys of the Analog era! I won’t be shedding any tears! It’s a mirror, son. Stop stabbing at people and you won’t get stabbed back. Fixing it involves dealing with yourself, first. Come back when you find your humanity. Thanks. OTOH, ...
how were copies of vinyl made in "third-party" countries
To add: If one wants a good analog 70s LP copy of let say, any 70's Pink Floyd... and is perusing eBay, look for EMI/Harvest in mint shape from Canada, instead of the  USA. That kind of thing. Do yer research, if so inclined.
how were copies of vinyl made in "third-party" countries
An example, that is not necessarily correct, but illustrates how it may go: EMI/Harvest, in Canada VS the USA. Back in the pure analog days. EMI makes a copy of the master, and then uses that to make copies for the various areas they market into...
Cable burn in
Burn in, as a pattern..tends to go: an initially dirty upper mid range glare and a subtle mono-ish effect, then down to cleaner stereo but muted/darker/soft, then slowly back up to cleaner, more evenly balanced dynamic stereo.   This, over a ...
Audio Science Review = Rebuttal and Further Thoughts
In reality I think it’s all misplaced nervosa. Where we all want to talk about the war (even if we say we don’t!), in some fashion, but the forum won’t let us. Even though this is probably the best place for us to talk about it all, as other pla...
Everything matter in the audio chain. Tests prove it!
From the article: Do cables affect frequency response? Yes. That too is visible and measurable. In particular, the Shunyata deviates in a positive way. And this cable does so in all cases. Your author believes that it has been proven that a cabl...
The one time you want to pull out but she says no.
Put casters on them. As the man said.... Or, put them on a small platform with casters on said platform. That means you can pull out when you want.
