Would self quarantine be a challenge for an Audiophile? Home detention even a punishment?
Got just the thing for those DIY'ers out there who've either run low on toilet paper or have considered something easier and less costly than a bidet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRduYc6GWHk All the best, Nonoise |
Biden comes across like a modern day Max Headroom but he's a damn sight better than what we have now. By a long shot. A country mile. On other fronts, someone's come up with a great idea: https://www.autoblog.com/2020/03/25/scg-developing-healthcare-worker-face-shield/ All the best, Nonoise |
Just saw a reporter in Italy and they're confounded as to why the infection rate is going up despite the social distancing. Being out in public used to get you a €60 fine and now it's €3,000 and 5 years in jail if you're infected. And, the rates are differing in odd ways. Lombardy is a wealthy area and not as congested as Rome and yet Lombardy is harder hit. And even though Italy has the second oldest population of any country, 1,800 of the ICU beds are 30 year olds. I hope whatever they figure out to do works. All the best, Nonoise |
Since he can't hold campaign rallies any more, he's hogging the WH briefings as much as he can. I've never seen someone meander and babble for over two hours. Now we have kids holding coronavirus parties in Kentucky. One just tested positive. They don't believe it's real. NPR station KUOW in Seattle stopped broadcasting WH briefings due to the pattern of false and misleading information being given out. There's not enough air time to fact check all the lies. Mitch McConnell wants the Senate to go on a one month vacation since they've passed a bill. Like there's nothing else to do. This is through the looking glass times we're living in. Just minutes ago, the president tweeted that only the MSM (mainstream media) is calling for a shutdown in order for him to lose the election. There you have it, ladies and germs. He admits, right out in the open, that he's only concerned about his well being. It's always been about him. All the best, Nonoise |
Just saw an ad on TV for a car maker (forgot the name) who’s going over to ordering online and making arrangements to pick it up by appointment. There’s also a large grace period on when payments start. As for what's considered essential and staying open for business, it could be the audience Harley owners comprise and all that goes with it. Not a knock on Harley towers, just an observation. My brother in law rides one and in my youth, I tried one but it was the most unresponsive bike I ever rode. They’re the Fred Flintstone of motorcycles. 😄 All the best, Nonoise |
Since I'm retired, staying at home is an easy task. As I've said, my recovery from cataract surgery precede the outbreak by two weeks so I've already conditioned myself. I only go out for my daily walk and sometimes drive to the store and that's it for me. I have a sister in a long term care facility who I can no longer visit. I have another who now works from home but her husband is idled because his job is overseeing the building of theme parks and since he can't travel overseas now, things have quieted down, since it's a kind of gig job. My niece and her husband both work for Gelson's so they're on the front line having to deal with the public on a daily basis. Same for two grand nephews. One works at Costco and the other for a dentist. I can't even visit them for fear of getting or giving the gift that keeps on taking. I never thought I'd miss my gym routine like I do now. It's renewal time and I wonder if it's going to be worth it. Maybe a home rower since it works the whole body at once and is low impact. All the best, Nonoise |
They just has a news blurb on how aspiring doctors at USC are forgoing their education for awhile to become ER nurses to help in the fight against this virus. Now that is commendable. Frank, I hope you weather this crisis as it's no laughing matter. I'm retired as well and am going stir crazy. Alas, I only have myself to get around but the stores are close and the people are nice so here's hoping that noting untoward happens. All the best, Nonoise |
Spain reported 738 dead in one day, surpassing China's total, which was passed by Italy just days before. Dr. Fauci said that the virus is now spreading through So. America which is on it's winter season, which makes it imperative that we get a working vaccine before the second round starts. Mississippi's Governor said they're not going to be China and refused to issue a statewide shelter in place order. The cities took it upon themselves to do it so he overrode all of them and made them stay open. I think his parents were siblings. All the best, Nonoise |
glupson, That's nice of you to mention that. It's too bad the local high school is shuttered but there's one around that age who is a neighbor. I'm still quite able to get around but not being young anymore, I'm feeling more and more mortal, and now with this virus and the tightening of health care, it kind of magnifies the situation. Too much time to dwell (waste) on the matter. Doctors are relating stories of how some people are finding it difficult to remain indoors and the psychological effects it can have. Compound that with advancing age, isolation from familiar activities and the like and your can get a witch's brew of negative outcomes. It'll be interesting to see the mental outcomes from the population, at large, as it's, I assume, being documented by the relevant health officials. This will have long lasting effects. It's nice to wake up to a bunch of nice people not arguing anymore.😄 Well, almost. Frank, thanks for the link. I'm still going to push my luck for awhile as the grocery stores I go to are well managed and only allow 25 people every 10 minutes and everyone is keeping as much distance from each other as possible. People are very aware of what's going on. glupson, here is a updating list of infection by state: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18oVRrHj3c183mHmq3m89_163yuYltLNlOmPerQ18E8w/htmlview# All the best, Nonoise |
The Fed chairman was on TV this morning and he's for the money going out to middle and low income people to see them through this and yet we have GOP senators arguing on the floor last night against aid because it will encourage nurses not to work and we are a country of those who believe in the dignity of work and shouldn't do anything to discourage that. ???????? Nurses and doctors are wearing garbage bags for protective gowns and we have thousands of retired nurses coming back to help and all they can talk about are lazy nurses? Predictions of unemployment claims were 1.5 Million by this week and they're at 3.28 Million, instead. Those same predictions peg unemployment at 14% by June. What if those numbers double in kind as well? We need to reverse last years tax breaks for the uber wealthy and take a much closer look at the half Trillion dollar slush fund for the fat cats, who simply don't need it. Why are we bailing out cruise lines? None are registered in the USA and only pay 1/10th of 1% tax since they are contrived tax havens for those who want to hide their money. That's the kind of BS that needs to be taken out of this bill in order to save the middle and lower class, since it's those classes that fuel this economy, not the money makers who simply move their cash around, looking for the best breaks they can get. All the best, Nonoise |
They say we're a week or so behind Italy. This video is from yesterday:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXJhvAtDVwI This does not bode well for us. All the best, Nonoise |
And the silver team? Their dominance is insane. Hamilton is a beast. Ridiculously talented driver on a ridiculously talented team.. With the schedule delay, they've all got time to do some serious research now that all the cars debuted. Lots of looking and checking out each other's work. Now we have Vettel maybe looking to leave Team Red and Ricciardo expressing interest in driving for Ferrari. It's really a shame that the season was put on hold but it was the right thing to do. James Dyson just invented a new ventilator in 10 days and we have our leader saying it's too difficult for the federal government to do things: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/26/tech/dyson-ventilators-coronavirus/index.html Yeah, right, just let the states provide for themselves, fighting over hoarded supplies, paying usurious prices for life saving gear that he could oversee in a much more expeditious manner. All the best, Nonoise |
I hope this was a little exaggeration.Actually, no. They said that giving them more money on top of what they make would incentivize them to just not come to work. That amounts to calling them lazy. Even Rick Scott, the Senator from Floriduh, said it would be fraud if they gave them the money and he was president of a medical company that committed the largest Medicare fraud in the history of this country. Oh, the irony. All the best, Nonoise |
big_greg, That is just awful news. I’ve read similar stories where people have similar symptoms and lengths and they never went on to develop pneumonia. I hope your friend is one of them. They said it’s the worse they ever felt. One doctor said that because this is a "novel" virus, we have virtually no defense to it whatsoever. And the spike in cases is still a week or two away. All the best, Nonoise |
Counseling? It will not be enough. Serious psychotherapy will be needed. It's nice to hear from someone who has a background in or at least an appreciation of Freud. His contribution in the therapeutic value of talking it out, in depth, takes time, is stressful, but in the end, mostly successful. Not to mention a hell of lot better than pharmacology. That only gets at the manifest and not the latent, which is at the heart of it. Being that the causes are recent and apparent, it should be easier and shorter in duration to treat. All the best, Nonoise |
I also saw that some doctors and nurses are considering blanket DNR protocols. It doesn't make sense to devote a crash cart team of 10-15 to treat someone who's on death's door, getting splattered with disease, only to neglect the ones who are in better shape. I couldn't do this and triage if I were in the medical profession. These people are going to need tons of counseling when this tapers off. All the best, Nonoise |
glupson, I think the worse affected are the nurses. They've always been the real life savers since they're never off the front lines. There's a video I've seen a couple of times on TV where a nurse takes the viewer on a tour (I think in New York) outside and inside the hospital and it's heart wrenching. She almost loses it a couple of times and I'm getting a bit misty just relating it. All the best, Nonoise |
I just came across this neat by scary video showing how far those kids on spring break can spread the virus if they have it. It's through the use of cell phone location over a given time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq2zuE3ISYU All the best, Nonoise |
Finally!!!! Trump just pushed the button on the Federal Production Act, specifically GM, who he called General Electric. That's for the ventilators. A few other industries were called into action as well. And on other fronts, we passed China for the number infected. They have 1.4 Billion people and we have 348 Million. Again, we're first at something. I can't take all of this winning. All the best, Nonoise |
Yes, that's the one. He ended up strong-arming Qatar with a blockade because they wouldn't give him $1 Billion to pay off his loan to the building, He overpaid by 50% the actual value and couldn't pay the note. Using his WH contacts, he organized a blockade of Qatar, the only Arab country that allows US solders to be stationed (50,000 of them) at our only forward operating base in the region. He had our ally presented as the bad guy and had other Arab countries cite false violations and crimes to help strong arm them. It was all resolved by a "loan" given to Jared's general holdings and they feigned surprise that it went to help pay off the note. That way, all parties saved face. Jared never talked to Rex Tillerson, our Sec. of State and just went and did it himself. And they talk about Hunter. 😄 All the best, Nonoise |
When Jared was put in charge of making ventilators, he reported back that we'd have 80,000 soon. Turns out that only 7,500 could be made under the plan. GM would have to have put in several hundreds of millions of dollars for retooling and have orders ready to offset the costs, since this was being done under the present way we do things. Total outlays were projected to be $1 Billion. Not very efficient at all. Someone did the math and it amounted to ordering 18 F35 fighter jets. Again, no way to run a railroad. All the best, Nonoise |
I would tend to doubt anything from the The Gateway Pundit. They are not journalists. Per MediaMatters: The Gateway Pundit is a right-wing website that repeatedly falls for hoaxes, pushes conspiracy theories and smears of Democratic officials, and is an ardent defender of President Donald Trump. The good news is Abbott Labs announced they will have a test that will give results in as little as 5 minutes by April 1st. They said they can process 50,000 per day. All the best, Nonoise |
No, it wasn't an April Fools article: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-27/abbott-launches-5-minute-covid-19-test-for-use-almost-anywhere https://abbott.mediaroom.com/2020-03-27-Abbott-Launches-Molecular-Point-of-Care-Test-to-Detect-Novel-Coronavirus-in-as-Little-as-Five-Minutes This is GAME CHANGER. Abbott to market, starting next week, a fast point-of-care #coronavirus test, delivering positive results in 5min and negative results in 13min. Will deliver 50K tests/day to start. Kudos to Abbott and FDA’s Jeff Shuren and team at CDRH who are in the fightAll the best, Nonoise |
I understand the motivations behind such actions and I can't say with any certainty that I wouldn't do the same if wealth or opportunity came my way. The fact that it's a dice roll and the house always wins, coupled with my situation (which mirrors the overwhelming majority of people), I have little sympathy on such chances taken. It's a bit late to assume you haven't or won't run into someone who already has it. Here's a site where you can click on your state and see the projections: https://covidactnow.org/ It appears Cr. Brix was correct in her assessment that all metro areas in this country will look like New York in a matter of weeks. All the best, Nonoise |
I wonder how many waited 14 days to make sure they're not infected before going so as to not worsen the plight of the residents in Sun Valley, Idaho. And what precautions did they take as they left home, handled papers, luggage and interacted with all manner of people before and while getting there. Their second home can take second fiddle. All the best, Nonoise |
My sister woke me this morning with a call to see if I waned anything from the store. She was at a Ralph's and said the aisle were almost fully stocked: eggs, TP, paper towels, etc. The only thing she didn't see was Lysol spray, but then no one seems to have that. Also, their new policy is to open at 6:00am and those over 60 (or 65?) are allowed in first. I'll just go on a week day. On another note about quarantining, Sun Valley, Idaho is experiencing a boom of visitors flying in on their private jets and driving in from across the country. License plates from California and New York make up a lot of them. The local residents are none too happy about it, rightly fearing that these fools are going to bring more of the virus to their city. What is it with some of these people, partying like nothing's amiss? It takes a very special kind of stupid to think that your wealth makes you immune, or that you'll just get attended to by your concierge doctor. All the best, Nonoise |
First I heard Texas was doing it but now it's spreading: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/rhode-island-new-yorkers-quarantine-out-or-state_n_5e7fc775c5b6256a7a2be373 Americans are allowed to travel freely amongst the states and the Supreme Court has ruled on this at least twice. I can understand the fear but it's only a matter of time before it gets to the rural areas and they'll need all they have to care for own residents. Tough and bad choices are going to be made when this spikes and worsens as it'll scare the hell out of those who've been complacent or slow to respond. All the best, Nonoise |
Posing as some kind of political philosopher, while literally saying Orange Man Bad. TDS. It really is a thing.Posing as some kind of religious acolyte, while literally defending his orange priest, who he's erected an altar to so as to worship. The "D" in your case refers to denial. It really is a thing. All the best, Nonoise |
flescher, It’s all to easy to look back at what should have been done. California is doing a fairly nice job so far at flattening the curve, Things can change in a second, but we’re doing better than most. But what about the way things are presently being done by the party occupying the oval office. Will you be penning a damning lament about them soon? You could read it all as it’s been happening so feel free to pile on. One was done for budgetary reasons years ago and the one we’re living in now is being done for, what reasons would you care to say? All the best, Nonoise |
