I use a macmini as a music server and for watching hbogo and netflix, and I've been really happy with a small wireless Lenovo multimedia keyboard/mouse. It's unlike any other options out there, as it uses an optical "trackball" like those used to control blackberry phones and can be operated with one hand whenever you're not typing. The optical sensor can also be "pushed" to serve as a mouse click, which is really convenient. You really don't want to have a solution that requires both hands, or a mouse on a surface. I find those to be deal-breakers for couch-based computer control.
Anyway, the Lenovo doesn't always have perfect response, and I wouldn't want to use it to type out a full e-mail or anything, but for basic music control, movie selection, and web-surfing, it's really great. It also has a backlight so you can see what you're typing in the dark.
