TG SLVR Power cord; substitute or something better

i've been using some tg slvr powercords for quite sometime and been very pleased.

its now hard to find them since Bob Crump passed away.

Can someone here recommend a good all around powercord in the $500 price range ? hopefully something as good or better than the tg slvr ?

thanks for input guys

I own both TG audio SLVR and the Pure Note Paragon Enhanced power cords. Both are excellent. The Pure Note is a better in the highs and are available.
Tplavas, there are significant differences with various types of silver. Classifying it as bright and hashy may be accurate for some but certainly not for all, and in my experience it can reveal harshness elsewhere in the chain. By the same token, cryo treatment is no panacea and surely some designers eschew it - Bob Crump was one of them.

Brian,

Thanks for the info on the connectors of the TG Silver. The silver-plating would probably be the reason that Tvad found the TG Silver to be bright and hashy.
I've spent the last year and a half listening to every AC connector and outlet out there, as well as having them cryo'd and listening again. I agree completely that the connectors are an integral part of the power cable, (and not just a marketing device.)
I was just wondering if perhaps instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water, that trying a different connector or two might get Nolitan where he wanted to go, and save him some money. Just trying to be helpful.
Brian,

Thanks for the information on the questions I suggested in my post. It should be helpful to all those considering the purchase of a new TG Audio cable.
Tplavas, the wall plug used on the SLVR is a silver plated Pass & Seymour extra-hard use spec grade unit, not hospital grade, while the IEC plug is a silver plated Schurter, I believe. Bob Crump spent many years comparing many devices and taking detailed notes, until he found the ones he liked best...he had a garage full of stuff that didn't work. That's not to say others may have other preferences in voicing, but my point is it takes a long time to find what works best, and the termination and other materials all affect the sound.
Brian
Nolitan,

Have you considered upgrading the AC connnectors on your TG silvers instead of changing cords? I'm not that familiar with the TG audio line, but aren't the connectors of the hospital-grade variety? A connector change could improve the overall performance of the cord without significantly altering what you already like about it.
Hi Hammerhead

thanks for the info.

are these hammerhead silver pretty stiff to work with ?

How much are they for a 5 foot powrcord ?

thanks
BMI Cables still sells direct in the USA. Since BMI is so busy they only sell directly in USA by referral. I personally have 6 BMI Hammerhead Silvers and love them. By far the most natural sounding power cable I've heard in the last 15 years since upgrading cords. The Hammerhead silvers do wonders for treble, mid vocals and bass control. Worth every penny.

Here is a link to one of BMI Cables Asian distributors.

I'll save you the trouble of contacting Frank. Frank was not involved with Bob Crump but came into the picture after Bob passed away, although he and Bob were acquainted. Frank has not made any changes to the products but meanwhile has been experimenting with some new designs such as power cords. If and when new products are available they will be listed on the TG Audio website.
Brian
The TG Audio website (tgaudio.com) has a prominent statement that Frank Latimer is now making the cables Bob used to make. TG Audio doesn't sell direct, but you can contact Frank by e-mail with any questions you have. You might want to inquire about his involvement with the cables while Bob was alive and whether he has made any changes.
I am a TG Audio dealer. I have no trouble getting orders filled for SLVRs and other TG cables, since someone else is building the products these days. As best I can tell they sound identical to what Bob Crump used to build.
Brian
Playing this power cord with many, many trials. I ended up with BMI Cable Hammerhead Silvers to finish out my plus six figure $$ two channel reference audio system.

The only thing is that the Hammerhead silvers are very addictive. Once you hear how much one cable makes an improvement you end up buying another one and another..
I have three in my system now and currrently ordered three more to finish it out.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the TG Silver's are still being made, just not by BOb. If I'm wrong about that I apologize, but I recall seeing it on the TG Audio website.

I would recommend the VH Audio Flavor 4 as previously mentioned. You might also want to try the CRL Silver. They are being offered on Audiogon right now at amazing prices. I have two in my system and they have worked out quite well.

That's a good thing, and based on your comment I'd suggest that perhaps my comments don't carry much weight since my listening experience in my system differs from yours. System synergy or resolution is everything when it comes to evaluating wire.

Its true, system synergy is important.
Anyhow, i'm looking at your recommendations since i would need one for my Modwright 9.0SWL pre-amp.
Thanks again for inputs.

tvad

thanks for the notes.

i alsohave the tg688 but i prefer the slvr in my system.

how long have you had your slvr ? they do take forever to break in though. Fortunately i dont experience that unrefineness in the upper mids.

I will look at the pc you mentioned above. thanks again !

its cleaner, the blackgrounds are blacker, more orderly sound and in some cases, if placed on amplifiers it sound as if its more powerful. Its also versale, works well with tube pre-amps, solid state and tube power amps. Even on the processor like lexicon, it also improves dynamics and quiteness.

i have compared this is analysis plus and ps audio cables in the $200 to $400 range and i still find the slvr better in my limited experience.

Tvad, great, since you used tg slvr yourself, what powercords have you tried that improved the slvr ? in what ways ? thanks
