Roon on laptop to dac to preamp ?

NOOB ?

I currently use Tidal on a laptop via USB to my Brooklyn DAC then to my Rogue preamp.

I want to use Roon for the remote control ease. I will install Roon on my laptop and phone and am assuming this would still be the proper path to listen to my music. I will also be adding an external drive with my music library on it.

Am I safe to say this work?

Roonserver on your laptop with a music hard drIve connected and Roon app on your phone should do it. Your phone or iPad with the Roon app can remotely control your Roonserver.
If you have the extra money buy a Apple Mac Mini.  I bought an open box for $370.  Installed the core on the Mac Mini and control it via my Macair.  Works great!! you can do USB or optical audio out of the Mac.  Run it headless after setup with no keyboard or monitor.

The best write up that got me in this direction was PS Audio.

You can control Foobar 2000 remotely from an Android device for free.  I have a small Win 10 computer with a 1TB SSD which connects through USB to a Schiit Modi Multibit and on to a preamp, amp and Martin Logan speakers.  Any android device can run the Foobar 2000 controller app.
Yes, that should work, as I have a similar setup.

In my case I have the Roon "core" running on a high-end Dell, USB to a Mytek Brooklyn and PS Audio DirectStream DAC (two "zones" in Roon), controlled by my Android phone...and iPad.  Works great!

I keep the volume set to "max" on Roon and vary it on the preamp.
