I thought about doing the same thing in modding my Rega but the mods would not get you closer to a Saturn or BCD1 for the money you would spend. So I took the aadvice of friends and bought the Bryston BDA1 DAC, from what I hear it's world class sound and the Saturn doesn't come close to this combo.
