RCA-versus XLR

I have aurender a-10, which would be the best connection equipment less than two feet apart.

Your best bet is XLR. I have two Aurender streamers and really good DACs. The difference is likely to be subtle but the cost substantial. On my Aurender W20SE I use the AES… it sounds a bit better than the Sp/DIF and USB. I think you have to look at your budget. If going RCA allows you to upgrade a component more quickly, than do that. If you are looking to the future of a much better system go XLR. Balanced is getting much more pervasive as time goes on.

I'll give the other opinion. The advantages of XLR don't come into play in your situation and either will be fine.  You don't have a long run.

I am currently going back and forth between RCA and XLR on my DAC to integrated tube amp.  XLR seems a little bright the way it is implemented in this amp but it may be more cables than anything else.

As you can see, there are lots of opinions on cables.
