Need to check that CD out not sure if it's that different from The Best Of and The Best Of Vol 2 that were released a couple of years ago.
These compilations at that time were the best remasters of older Dylan stuff albeit selected tracks.
I haven't closely checked these with the new hybrid but being a big Dylan fan I'm looking forward to having the core of Dylan's work available in complete album form.
Larryr.. The Swedish CD you refer to is nothing special. I don't mean it's bad...just that it's not head and shoulders above anything else. I have it simply to keep my Dylan collection maxed out!
As for M&A soundtrack: if you don't mind covers of Dylan songs, with some by him thrown in, then it's OK. Again, in the interest of having a complete collection, it's a "must." The real CRIME though, is that Dylan's spine-tingling performance of "I'll Remember You" is not on the soundtrack!! Really pisses me off!!
I think actually the M&A soundtrack is excellent in places and interesting-many of the artists I'd never heard of.
Sadly three of the four Dylan performances sound quite weak in comparison to the younger company.
There are dynamite performances of Most Of The Time and One More Cup Of Coffee and I really like the rap/sampled Like A Rolling Stone.....that one will definetly wake up a few of the dinosaurs who inhabit Dylan's hardcore of fans...........
Cp I think you'll find there are more people who actually prefer covers of Dylan to the real thing, his voice is a real stumbling block for a lot of people.
I think these versions on this soundtrack are pretty fresh and well recorded and will appeal at least in part to many Audiogoners.
I worry about the movie but plan to see it when it hits the UK.
I'm fortunate to know someone at Columbia and got to an M&A preview about 6 weeks ago. I actually enjoyed it, but like a great red wine, it was the lingering "notes" that really made it for me. There are many layers to the film, some spot on, some silly, some absolutely hysterical. I won't say more... enjoy it.
